Incase you havnt seen it yet:

/edit - reply to all the angryness!.

The beta group is about - testing of future patchs.

It is to avoid problems like we saw on march 25.
And to be frank, i find it very strange that alot of you guys cant seem to comprehend that.

So instead of being so negative, see this as a positive solution for any upcoming patchs.

It is a good move by CA considering the previous patch issues.
(its not the first time a game company does this btw, & hopefully not the last either!).

So cheer up!. And this game will prevail.

I thought that is what we all were doing anyways. Application, application ...phffft.

I was under the impression that if you bought the game, you automatically qualified.

Wow, we are witness to a world premiere: The first ever beta group to start AFTER a game is released.

This is very innovative, usually there were only two types of beta tests:

1.) A beta test before the game is out.

2.) No beta test at all.

So "haha" to the guys who thought Empire would be a "type 2 game". It's not. Thanks @ CA.

Wut? Many games have beta groups for updates. Company of heros for example. It's a good idea.

I've never said it would be a bad idea. The only bad thing about it is that they effectively reduce the numbers of beta testers by only inviting a few of as. Before we were all beta testers. What's with the famous Steam ability to collect data from hundredthousands of players?

Anyway, I'm also positive that they're rounding up a beta team. It's just that I'm absolutely against applauding CA now that they finally do what's right and forget about everything that went wrong. Eventually I'll get over it, but not now.

The steam ability is only really able to collect sytem information, what hardware and software they have, that is, if people allow it.

No, I've sait it before and I've said it again, buying the game did not make you a beta tester, unless you were submitting a detailed report directly to CA on a regular basis, the idea that if you've bought it, you're a beta tester is ludicrous, as that's just not the case, despite feeling that you've got a beta product.

By asking for Beta testers, they get people who actually want to and presumably should, spend time sending back well thought out, well detailed reports.

    Ok i see.

But you have to praise positive behaviour and punish negative. If you punish everythign you'll get a very disturbed child

    It ain't world premier.

The largest sb-MMORPG in the planet Earth - WOW for instance, has this practice since long ago - all patches first tested publicly on test-servers.

I think this move is a sober effort to improve the quality control.

One of the longest running single instance MMO, EVE Online has been doing this since their inception.

In fact they run an entire separate server instance specifically to test patches, expansions, updates, etc...

The Battlefield series by DICE did this as well. There was a private beta, open beta, and then a running beta for updates. They actively recruited people from the community for it as well, one of the guilds I was in at the time beta tested that series and others for awhile before we shut down.

    Better late than never??????????????????

Lets see if the next Total war gets properly Beta tested, I would be amazed if CA want to have to go through this problematic time again.
Edit: I only posted here because the game just CTD me at end turn in my Yank game, first of that type of CTD for me, can I have a ballon or something?

Wow, a beta group now??? Thanks for basically admitting this game is a royal mess.

I can't wait for in about 5 or 6 years I can look back on ETW and laugh with friends about "remember that mess of a game that came out where nothing worked..."

Interesting move. I wonder how large the testing group will be?

Well, too bad I'm not too constructive in their terms. Kinda keeps me out of it. Still, I hope they stay with this thing... perhaps move it to pre launch in future releases of the series?
