Unable to start campaign

hi all, i just installed m2tw, kingdoms and stainless steel 6.1 on my new laptop, and keep encountering a really strange problem; when i have chosen which faction to play when starting a new campaign and click on the 'start campaign' button, instead of allowing me to begin playing it jumps me back a screen and does not allow me to proceed further. My laptop meets all the system reqs and the nature of the fault leads me to believe it has something to do with the software itself, the laptop runs vista so it could be to do with that, anyone encountered this issue before? I've tried reinstalling the game and mod to no avail and am getting pretty frustrated now, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

This means something is wrong with some game files, in this case it seems to be with the map files.
In the root of the game is a file called systemlog or something to that effect (have my game modded to create the file somewhere else in a different name for ages). Look for a line with [error] in it. That should tell you what is wrong.
It has got nothing to do with the quality of your computer.
