North Korea Threatens War Against Japan Over Missile

arch 31 (Bloomberg) -- North Korea’s government vowed to wage war against Japan if Japanese defense forces try to shoot down a missile that the communist nation says will carry a communications satellite. “Should Japan dare recklessly to intercept the DPRK’s satellite, its army will consider this as the start of Japan’s war of reinvasion more than six decades after the Second World War,” the official Korean Central News Agency said today in an e-mailed statement. North Korea is also known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Well it's come to this. If Japan shoots down the DPRK's missile, it's war. Is North Korea just trying to dissuade Japan and is this an empty threat? Or is this threat for real. Could we see hostilities in the region after more then 50 years?

North Korea has suicidal tendences but no navy worth mentioning. How are they going to fight Japan if they can't even land there?

If they have nukes then yeah they have a relatively minor chance of still landing a nuke in japan, remember Japan has a better chance at intercepting that missile. However, NK wont win the war by shooting missiles, Japan airforce would eventually launch sorties and full scale invasions over North Korea Capital.

Obviously China wouldn't step in on NK's side. If anything they would fight on NATO's side!

Very true, but if NK declares war, than Japan is allowed to perform offensive operations that are key to its defense in the war declared upon them.

No but they can respond to being attacked -- and more importantly, the US and by extension NATO are allies of Japan and would be compelled to come to its defense.

If NK has any sanity, they are banking on China supporting them -- which is insane in its own right.

I also would not rule out a Japanese naval invasion if NK did not immediately cease hostilities. If Japan was attacked and the world recognizes the attack I doubt few countries would protest against a Japanese attack. I also dont think Japan would invade and occupy the country like they did in ww2, but if NK did fall there would need to be an occupying force along the border to prevent the hordes of malnourished refugees from wiping out the SK economy.

I don't think anyone (besides China) is willing(or able) to invade North Korea at the moment. We will have to wait and see.

I've been to North Korea a couple of times, actually. It's really pretty bleak in the urban areas but rural NK is actually quite beautiful and there's plenty of breathtaking scenery to keep my camera shutter clicking.

There's a good tourism industry in there somewhere if/when the NK regime finally stops being retarded.
