    Default Troubleshooting "Unspecified Error" Crash

I am testing the conversion of WTW to kingdoms. I used GED's barebones mod as a base but am getting a crash the second time I try to start a campaign. The first time I open the game and start a campaign it loads correctly. However if I close out and go back in it CTD's when starting a campaign. I had a feeling it was an issue with the map due to the log entries so I tried deleting map.rwm but that didn't help. If I copy my entire source folder back into the game folder overwriting everything, it will work the first time again and crash the second.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the end of my trace log:

I think I narrowed this down to the text folder. When I delete the strings.bin files the campaign starts normally. Obviously these are regenerated which explains why the campaign wouldn't start a second time. Now I just need to find out which file is the culprit.

Easy, go back to the originals, and delete them one at a time and restart the campaign. The one(s) that are the culprit will fail, those that aren't won't.

Follow up question. I noticed that the export_descr_ancillary_enums.txt and the export_descr_vnvs_enums.txt from the original mod don't have all the ancillaries and traits. Could this potentially cause a problem? What exactly do these enum files do?

As far as I can say, they don't do a thing in M2TW. I have added lots of traits and ancillaries without defining them in the enums, with no negative effect.

The 'enums' are basically a listing of the terms that are in the curly brackets of the corresponding text files. Best description would be 'lookup'.

So if there's something in a text file that doesn't have a corresponding entry in the enums, it could definitely cause a problem? I think my issue is coming from either the character traits or ancillaries (or both) so this would make sense.

The best way to find out about your text files would be to clean out the folder and copy only the txt files into it (not the string.bin files!) - If the txt file is 'older' then a string.bin file, then the string.bin file will not be generated, only the other way round.

Seems they went the same way as the other lookup files. That would be an improvement over RTW where you had to enter the same stuff into three files.

But it seems to be still the case with names_lookup.txt.

In RTW 1.5/BI 1.6 the enum files weren't needed. Some people, myself included, keep them for completion. I don't mod M2TW, as I don't own it, but I was under the impression that the enum files were still needed.
