Default comp needs 10 mins for spanish mid game ai turn

    i wouldn't start a new thread if:

    1. this has been dealt with before
    2. this happens once,

but i have experienced this problem 3x before in long campaigns. sending a rake over to spain, reveals 20 smallish stacks all cramped together just sitting there and most probably trying to go somewhere and somehow can't find their way.

the weird thing is, that on some turns (maybe 5-10% probability), the ai will just jump past spain in 1-2 secs and then the next turn it needs 10-15 mins again.

all campaigns where longish, and the last 2 where wars of succession with austria (me) around 1740 onwards. h(battle)/vh(campaign).

comp is powerful enough: 9450 quad, 4 gigs ddr3 1gig ram vid card. vista 64.

i've done house chores and actually filed away and dealt with correspondence/bills/receipts, that have been piling up on my desk since december, but after the last turn, i also had a ctd, which means restarting the game and waiting another 10 mins for that same turn. (am about to destroy those spanish stacks with my invasion force, that is on it's way).

I also played the long Austrian campaign and towards ca 1790 the Spanish AI seemed to take forever. From 5 to 10 minutes each turn. At first I thought it was due to the emerging factions in Latin America (Mexico showed up during the same period of time), then I realized it was not the consequence of actions which the fog of war was hiding. Huge stacks of troops were all over Spain and for some reason I suspected a civil war or insurrection had broken out. By the way, I read a post a while ago saying that Sweden was also very slow when it came to AI and CPU turns.

This is a huge problem for me as well, Up to year 1826 as USA in Grand Campaign. The AI Turn time for Maratha has steadily risen from 1 to 2 minutes to an agonizing 40 minutes.

The processor usage is at 100% but the pocket watch keeps spinning and eventually the turn finishes. At this point it seems I just have to junk the campaign and start another one again.

it took about 30-40 minutes as well, mainly due to the united provinces and maratha. this is unbearable!!

Same problem with me regarding the Spaniards. Working through a Martha campaign, autoresolve nearly all battles, but since taking on the Ottomans, about turn 60, the Spaniards are on a go slow. At about 15 min a turn.

A few turns later I started getting my first CTDs.

yup, marathas is running at about 30-40 minutes when playing as the US in the grand campaign. this is absolutely ridiculous.

Do you play on Hard/Hard or even VH/VH?

I cant be sure but I guess the AI does "more things" on higher diff levels and tend also to build bigger stacks of troops which get "trapped" from time to time on bridges for instance, which causes some of the CTD.

Have you tried to lower the diff level just for one turn, just to see if the AI passes its turn faster?
Could it solve some of the CTD people are experiencing on AI turns?
(I tested two files from a guy having CTD on VH/VH on my computer and the files are just fine -see the other thread of AI turn CTDs- )

    EDIT:
    Was refering to Nuxes'

The campaigns do not pass the next turn for him, but it works on my computer.
    Strange isnt it?

I play on regular level. I have not had the CTD Problem during AI Turn, just the problem with one or another faction taking a long time. You might notice them taking longer and longer to finish their turn, eventually they will take up to 45 minutes. I quit that campaign and started a new one as the British Empire and have made it 80 or so turns so far without a problem. But that problem has happened to me in to other campaigns and it is a bummer when it ruins a good campaign.

I see. Maybe you could have tried to destroy that faction to solve the problem.
I suspect the AI to have hundreds of stacks of 1 unit all around the map

I thought about it, but with the AI taking 45 Minutes a turn, for me to put together a new army, transport it to India and destroy the offending Maratha would have taken me a month of game play time. Its just easier to start over anew. :-(
