I was Inspired by the is Disney Downhill thread to create this thread. To me I am partially divided over the subject. For one thing the clone wars series the newest star wars product was just plain awful and shows to me how the people running star wars are just as stupid as other companies sometimes. On the other hand star wars has progressed in other fields like in KOTOR, which really captured the George Lucas feel to me. What do other people think of Star wars current situation?

Yes sir. And yes Return of the Jedi wasn't that great. The only ones worth watching are A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back.

Sure a few of the books are good. Most are average to below average. Same goes for the games. Spare for a few like TIE Fighter.

The original Trilogy were all great, but none of the new films really hit the heights.

I mean, they're ok and fill in some gaps that needed, umm...filling. I'd even go so far as to say they're reasonably good films in their own right, they just don't fit well with the rest of the Star Wars films.

4: Awesome movie. My biggest problem with it was how the Storm Troopers just seemd to...well suck.

5: My fav of the originals. I will never forget the duel between Luke and Vader. "Luke! I AM you father!" Duh duh duhhhhhhhhhh!

6: I liked the movie. I liked the end duel and Vader's redemption...other then that...it was OK.

1: Once again ok. I found it interesting to find out about Anakin etc etc. I loved Qui Gonn! They killed him off so early. I liked the duel at the end with Darth Maul.

2: I found this one to be VERY boring with all the luvy duvy crap. The Clone Trooper part got me excited for the next movie and I like Jango but other then that...

3: Amazing movie. I found the story and climax of Anakin and the beggining of Vader to be touching. However, perhaps the BEST part about this movie above the battles, the jedi duels and the story is Darth Vader. I never saw him again in any movie. When I watched 4 I didnt see a heartless James Earl Jones. I saw a heartBROKEN man whos only family was the Emperor.

Books: I quite liked the books. Namely for the lore and backstory input.

Games: Blah...bad...except for two series. Battlefront (for obvious reasons). And...KOTOR, my favorite game to this day. Both games are in the tip top of my gaming list. I love em. I have beaten them countless times and I will continue to do so...well as long as I play games. Why? The story. I lvoe the story of KOTOR I and II.

    Agree on all counts.

And Tie Fighter was just awesome.

Of course it has, ever since Lucas made up Ewoks the universe went downhill. It says a lot that anything worthwile is set tousands of years before the main story.

Although divided on contents or at least how it sometimes was brought, the newest SW products are awesome eye-candy, and c'mon guys, the first 3 movies (4,5 & 6) are in that regard simply crap compared to present day space shootouts. This is SF, so imo eye-candy matters a lot.

dude the space battles in the original movies were incredible. The trench run is the stuff of legend, people literally cried out/applauded when the movie was released when they heard obi-wan's voice come in to luke on his run.

the asteroid chase in empire strikes back was pretty, and the rebel ships escaping hoth.

the battle of endor was pretty awesome, the highlight being when the rebels down the super star destroyer.

What kind of eye candy do you want? Jar Jar Binks?
GL mucked up because he wanted SW to appeal to kids so he brought in Ewoks, Jar Jar and goofy stylized animation in the Clone Wars cartoons. It took the "WAR" out of Star Wars! Its dark subject matter and deserves the treatment. Its like going to eat Indian food expecting something spicy and getting served gummy bears.

That said, GL went a good ways to redeeming himself with Revenge of the Sith but Anakin's acting sucked and they killed the Jedi off way too easily. Yoda can sense minor disturbances in the force but he can't pick up on a plot involving the whole silly universe? Honestly, I was rooting for Darth Sidious the whole time.

4, 5 and 6 were flawed because lucas wanted the rebels to win from the get-go, so instead of having realistic battles where they miraculously pull through with actual tactics, he just made the stormtroopers seem really off and on. In 4 and 6, we get stormtroopers that couldnt hit a bantha from 2 feet away and seem to be defeated by a strong breeze. In 5, stormtroopers were kickin ass left and right.

Anyway yea, downhill since the originals. Empire Strikes Back was the apex of starwarsosity. The name even sounds badass.

Bah, I loved them all. Except for the Clone Wars cartoon recently released and all the gooey love scenes in episode 2 and 3 that tried to attract young girls to Star Wars. I love the original 3 for there fantastic plot, cast and music. I love the newest 3 for there excellent fighting scenes and effects, some characters and the way they tie into the original 3 (episodes 4,5,6).

Some Star Wars releases are still very good.

Episode IV: Set the standard. It was good.
Episode V: It was good, but I never understood the hype surrounding it.
Episode VI: It started good, but... Ewoks? FFS.

Episode I: Massive drop of quality. Not good.
Episode II: A slow climb uphill. Lovescene at Naboo was atrocious. Kamino scenes were awesome. Ending was good.
Episode III: A good movie. Vader's turning a bit sudden and unrealistic. Yoda vs Emperor confrontation was epic. One of my favourites all in all.

    Then:
Most star wars games that get produced are mediocre crap. Force Unleashed disappointed. SW Galaxies is horrible. SW strategy games are blatant Age of Empires mods, SW action games are blatant Battlefield copies. Jedi Knight series is good. KotOR series is good. So again, quality fluctuates.

    EU releases:
Most of the Old Republic material is nicely written. Most of the New Republic material is atrocious.

    Newest cinema/tv releases:
Clone Wars cartoons were moderately fun. Clone Wars animated film was junk.

So all in all I'd say there is a 50/50 divide between utter garbage and the good stuff.
