Default Help me find related era movies

Howdy. Couldn't find a post like this, so I'm asking myself.
Anyone find related Era Movies or tv shows? Preperably with action, but not necessary.
Obviously I've been watching Last of the Mohicans and The Patriot, and recently watched John Adams, a new HBO mini series about the american revolution.
If yall can think of more, please enlighten me!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharpe_(TV_series) - Band of Brothers like Series about Richard Sharpe (Napoleonic Wars)

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
At the beginning of the series, Richard Sharpe (Sean Bean) is a sergeant in the 95th Rifles serving in Portugal in 1809. When he singlehandedly saves the life of General Sir Arthur Wellesley (David Troughton in the first two films, then Hugh Fraser) from a group of French cavalrymen, Wellesley gives Sharpe a battlefield commission, promoting him to lieutenant. Sharpe is placed in charge of a detachment of the 95th Rifles - a group of elite riflemen ("chosen men"), among them Sergeant Patrick Harper (Daragh O'Malley), who eventually becomes his best friend.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Alamo_(2004_film) - Texas Revolution

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Alamo is a 2004 American war film about the Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. It is the second major studio film about the battle, following John Wayne's 1960 film of the same name. The film was directed by Texan director John Lee Hancock, and produced by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Mark Johnson. It was produced and distributed by Touchstone Pictures.

Gettysburg. It's on Google Video in four parts, yes it's long but very good:

    "Gettysburg" June 30, 1863
    "Gettysburg" July 1, 1863
    "Gettysburg" July 2, 1863
    "Gettysburg" July 3, 1863

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Gettysburg is a 1993 film that dramatizes the decisive Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War. It was directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, who also wrote the screenplay, a close adaptation of Michael Shaara's 1974 novel The Killer Angels, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1975.

The film follows the plot line of Killer Angels. The focus on the first day is on John Buford, who selects the battlefield. The focus on the second day is Joshua Chamberlain's defense of Little Round Top. The focus on the following evening is on preparation for and the execution of Pickett's Charge. Lewis Armistead is the major focus of those scenes.

No one will be able to suggest any movie or series with the possible exception of Sharpe (that I haven't watched) that has as many battle scenes, and none will compare in terms of scale.

I think, maybe, Master and Commander might fall into the appropriate period. The Hornblower series too.

One of the history type channels often runs a series on the American revolution.

That's all I can think of off the top of my pointy head.

Grr - just pipped me to the post on Master and Commander. Napoleonic period. Tremendous movie.

You could also try the Madness of King George, and watch the Black Adder series for a sense of Britain during the period.

    Last of the Mohicans.

    Barry Lyndon by Stanley Kubrick?

    Master & Commander is awesome.

Someone on Fark pointed out that he thought it was, "The best Star Trek movie he'd ever seen." As an Aubrey/Maturin fan I had never looked at the film that way, but it absolutely works. Aubrey is Kirk, Maturin is Spock, the ocean is space, the French are the enemy of the week..and the Galapagos is like some new planet.

A&E's Miniseries Napoleon was quite good, battles were good to, and the charcters were likable.

LOL... well they have zulu dawn as well, that was a good one i thought...

but this era... man you are kinda limited... if you want all talk and no nice battles watch george washington that was on pbs a few years back... if you want insane battles in which the tommies are all nazis watch the patriot w/ mel gibson... if you want to be bored and confused as hell watch master and commander... actually i was just drunk, thats why i was confused... it was a pretty good movie.

if you don't mind venturing into the american civil war... theres gettysburg, gods and generals, glory, and andersonville (not a war movie per se... but still good).

venture a little farther and you get ruff riders, zulu and zulu dawn, all quiet on the western front... etc... then after you get to world war two, just forget about it and grab saving private ryan or the band of brothers series (got that on blu-ray... oh yea its nice )

that should do you just fine until they fix everything they broke in the patches

lol oh yea i forgot! that is actually an excellent movie... from the title.. which is very revealing... it is a moderately accurate portrayal of the battle of waterloo in 1815... pretty nice movie there...

Well, I just dislike Gods and Generals. Though you're probably right about both. Gettysburg fits what the OP wants and also happens to be a superior film with some fine performances. Also, Papa Shaara is a much better writer than his son.

You could try Four Feathers. Its about the British Army in Sudan sometime in the 18th or 19th century.

Don't forget the 1940 Spencer Tracy Northwest Passage with Spencer playing the role of Major Roger the Ranger.
Nominated for an Oscar in 1941.

And it is directly relevant to ETW...
