Unable to acces World Map-Complete System Shutdown
Greetings all,
I have recently re-installed M2TW since a mod was corrupted, removed any traces, cleaned the registery, all of that. Then Re-installed, installed Kingdoms, Lands to Conquer and Thera, both mods for Kingdoms, and things go amiss
Other things that may have effect:
-Replaced old, low end video card with a Saphire HD 3850 512MB, installed software.
-Replaced power supply with a OCZ Stealth Stream 500W
-Replaced RAM memory with 2 x 1 GB Kingston PC3200
Every function of the game works, even custom battles, everything, untill I start a campaign. Once the game has loaded, the world map shows up, and after 4-8 seconds, the comp decides its quitting time, and the system reboots.
After finding some things in the Bios system menu about not restating the comp after a fatal error, I tried again (a hundred times for that matter), same happens, and instead of restarting, a blue screen pops up. It does not however say what is wrong, only a couple of suggestions about the monitor adapter, shadowing and caching memory in the BIOS, and an error code that the site of microsoft couldn't recognise. (I'll post it ater, forgot to write the thing down)
After trying some things myself (like downing the resolution and such) my inspiration run dry. I really hope someone will be able to help me out, not being able to play my favorite game is slowly freaking me out

What is your cpu? How old is your computer? I believe you are getting a hotspot someplace. When you added these new parts, did you blow out all the crud inside the case before installing? In case it's new ram and the game will run on one gig, you can take them out and try them in different slots one at a time to see if that makes a difference.

CPU:AMD Athlon 3200+, 2.2Ghz, 400Mhz (4-5 years old)
About blowing out the crud, it wasn't extremely clean, there may have been some between parts eventually.
I tried the Ram-thing, the motherboed-bookled instructed me about which one was the right slot, but the problem continues.
I'll run the damn thing in a moment, and summarise both the report and the error code. In any case thanks for brain storming already hope someone'll figure it out
The Windows error message (after the actual reboot)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Added the following files to the error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc93e.dir00\Mini033109-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERc93e.dir00\sysdata.xml
The Upper belongs to the mini-memory dump file that is used after fatal crashes, but thats as far as I figured out.
P.S. was thinking of the way I installed the game. It's been such a long time that I might've missed something:
Medieval 2 Total War-->Kingdoms Total war (which patched M2TW to 1.2 and 1.3) (Crusades and Teutonic campaigns only) -->mods
The Great Blue Screen:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Problem has been found, windows has closed down to prevent any damage.
If this is the first time the blue screen appears, restart the computer, when faced with it again, its best to follow these steps;
-Control amound of space on harddrive (checked and ok)
-vague part about the system-program, I think they mean XP (which is XP Professional)
-If needed, Replace the adapter of the monitor.
-BIOS; Update when needed
-Disable BIOS memoryoptions like shadowing and caching.
Re: Unable to acces World Map-Complete System Shutdown
I tested everything I could, and decided its not probable that its the hardware thats giving the problems. It may be some map-file in M2TW thats corrupted for some reason. Will try to reinstall, I'll keep you updated
Re: Unable to acces World Map-Complete System Shutdown
You might have to go the way irishron is suggesting: there is no way that the game is the cause of this failure. I think it is merely the trigger.
If something was wrong with a map graphics file, the world map would not show up (and I had tons of those with my maps). It might sound funny, but you should go into options\video and do an autodetect. After that lower all settings by one notch.
Can you monitor temperatures (cpu, hard drive etc)?
Re: Unable to acces World Map-Complete System Shutdown
Well, I'll be damned xD after replacing my RAM memory with the new ones I had already ordered, and reinstalling the whole game....suddenly everything works fine for me. I don't know what it was that was triggered, and frankly, I couldn't care less, but the good thing is that I can play the game again thanks for all your support guys, your really helping people out here! +rep for both of ya.
Re: Unable to acces World Map-Complete System Shutdown
Just when I considered it was probably the heat, the system went down, without M2TW running. I apparently misinstalled some drivers, which caused conflicts. when that problem was overtaken, a new Blue Screen appeared when starting a campaign. The error code that appeared this time was because of a virus...some haxdoor something... and the removal of it contains a huge lits of register-editing, with a singe misstep resulting in more mayor problems. So...Winsows will have to be reinstalled, new-up to date drivers and such, and then we'll just try again.

I know, setting me to do it is hard...although its getting even worse, since it drops out at random intervals. will start this afternoon with formatting the C:\ drive, hope it'll solve everything. in any case, thanks for the great feedback!

I found out a long time ago reformatting is the only way to get rid of some viruses. Wish you the best.
