    Default War of succession

Every time your king dies, you have a war of succession thrown onto your lap! This is ridiculous. Although there were on occasion claims by some other monarch upon a country due to bloodlines, it wasn't all the time and in every succession in every country. And countries actually going to war over it was even more rare.

Sure someone can cite one, two or three cases in history, but that's exactly my point: One, two or three cases. Not every time.

Turn yourself into a republic and voila
E:TW's natives have developed a new "Ballistic Automatic Detection And Seeking System" to utterly annihilate any European that sets foot on their soil... That's BADASS for short!

A war of succession isn't certain. I've had three peaceful transitions to a new monarch, and no-one has claimed the throne for their own nation.

What faction are you playing? I think the Wars of Succession are only related to the Catholic Bourbon factions, but I haven't played enough games to prove it to myself as yet.

Playing as England or the UP, I have yet to see a War of Succession. I have however seen France/Spain and Austria go at it like cats and dogs, and they are all Catholic Bourbons.

yeah supposedly its in the code and there is a tree but they didn't make it so that WE could see it.

I think everytime your first king dies when you play as GB, Prussia declares a war of succession.

The French and Spanish were Catholic Bourbons however the Austrians were of the Habsburg (sometimes spelt Hapsburg) family. Well until 1740 when it became the Habsburg-Lorraine line.

ive never had one but saying they didnt happen during this time period is a mistake if anything most of the wars during this time period where from succession claims at least 2 major wars where and a few smaller wars.

Succession wars were common practice during the 18th century.

The Spanish War of succession (1701-1714)
The Polish War of succession (1733-1735)
The Austrian War of succession (1740-1748)
The Bavarian War of succession (1778-1779)

    to name a few.

well, four out of dozens of kings that died back then is a bit too few compared to the game, don't you think?
The point is that in the game you get a War of succession almost every time your king dies. then there are like 20 monarchies at a time. in the whole timeframe like 100's of kings/queens die and rise again and we get alot more then "just" 4 WOS)

Maybe Europe was only going to fight one war of succession at a time. Even so, it was a fairly hefty percentage of the YEARS in the period, even if it was only one at a time. Should you have one every time your king/queen dies? Nope. I've only had one and have lost leaders as Prussia, Great Britain and India. I'm going to try France next and see how often it happens to me there.

I played a few games as a few nations and i've always had peacefull transitions. I didn't even know you could have succession wars.

What do they consist of? are they like revolutions?

Basically a country disputes your new ruler's qualification to rule and they just declare war on you. I had one as Spain and had Poland Dow me

ive had wars of succession as france and prussia. i find them frustrating because as france i had austria declare war on me even when they were my allies.

Just had my first war of succession as Prussia; the United Provinces decided that they were the legitimate heirs to my vast Teutonic empire. Being at war with the Netherlands is not a huge issue.

The problem is that there is still a Dutchman on the throne of Great Britain, and now we're at war with them too.

My empire is land-based. I have one dockyard and no ships, and the British and Dutch have single-handely cut my income in half through piracy.
