Default Questions Obama SHOULD be asked

Thank you Bill Moyers for this wonderful entry.

Regarding health care reform, Mr. President, which do you think comes first: universal health care or cost containment?

Mr. President, you're proposing a modest tax increase from 35 to 39.6 percent for families earning more than a quarter million dollars a year. Back in the 1940s, 90 percent or more of the highest incomes were taxed and the majority of the public thought it was fair. What would be your objection to, say, a 90 percent tax on incomes exceeding three million dollars a year?

Mr. President, even as you are sending more troops to Afghanistan, a former CIA station chief there raises questions about whether your goals are even remotely achievable. Have you seen those questions and if so, what is your answer to them?

Can you be specific about your strategy for dealing with climate change? What basic principles guide it?

My own addendum: What do you think of the fact that it was the Second World War that effectively ended the Great Depression?

    Strongly debatable.

Ok, (although I think that it is off topic for this thread) HOW did WWII end the great depression?

It allowed the government to directly employ vast numbers of people and artificially create demand for the products that they employed, not to mention price and wage control and rationing. Theoretically, this could have all been achieved with out a war, but the war provided political cover (can't call FDR a communist during the war) and motivated people.

Strictly economically speaking, we could have seen basically the same economic impact if the government payed people to build tanks, drive them around the country and then scrapped all the tanks. The same government employment and consumption, with out the war, would have still stimulated the economy.

As for questions Obama should be asked, I'd like to know how serious he is about his claim that he can reduce the debt by 1/2 in 4 years, or however he worded it.
If the soul is impartial in receiving information, it devotes to that information the share of critical investigation the information deserves, and its truth or untruth thus becomes clear. However, if the soul is infected with partisanship for a particulat opinion or sect, it accepts without a moment’s hesitation the information that is agreeable to it.—Ibn Khaldun.

Economic crash = Massive deflation due to loss of demand.

World War 2 = Massive spending = artificial inflation due to the rapid spike in demand for goods (weapons, material, tanks, clothes, supplies, etc.), and unemployment dropped off to nothing.

    Coincidence? I think not.

correct. when there were not enough men to work in factories so women have to be employed, we called that period full employment...100% employment.

No, I just said that the only reason we left the Great Depression was because of the World War 2 was debatable.

I guess one of my questions would be whether Healthcare reform is practical in the current economic environment

Why did you tell the american people we would withdraw completeley from the middle east on your campaign, but you said it was necessary when you got into the office you lied for ?

When he was still running for president he had no access to Federal Intelligence.

He didn't say that. He said that he supported a troop increase in Afghanistan, and a paced withdrawal from Iraq. And that's what he's proposed to do.

It sure wasn't The New Deal that did it.

    Ah, appologies then.

Parts of it were beneficial, parts weren't. Several acts of legislation, such as the Required Reserves (meaning that banks can't loan out all their money at the same time) caused bank failures, yet stabilize our economy today.

Others served only to piss away taxpayer dollars which could have been better allocated.

Out of the Great Depression, we did get a number of major boons to our economy, such as the Hoover Dam--which supplies the Southwest with about 25-50% of its energy needs by its self).

I dont understand why people keep complaining about Obama for doing what he promised to do during his campaign. Unless of course they didnt vote for him.
