Strange CTD problem.
I was playing my Byzantine Empire campaign when the game crashed for reasons unknown. This isn't the strange part though, cause I think this does occasionally happen and there's not much I can do to recover my save file.
So, I started a new campaign with Spain. I start my first turn by building a couple buildings and sending my faction heir + some units to go take the rebel city nearby. I end my turn, and the game crashes during AI turn. It goes too fast for me to know which faction it crashes on.
I got the exact same problem with several other countries, so I decided to re-install not only SS, but also Medieval 2 itself. So, I do that, and I make sure all the little modifications I did myself(mainly adding princesses to Islamic factions), and so I start a game with the Fatimids, and just clicked the end turn button until my princess came of age. It all went fine, no CTD's or anything.
So, I start a Spain campaign again. Did the usual build, move units. Ended my turn, I have a CTD. I then tried to figure out what exactly is causing this by doing a series of little tests.
What I determined was-
The game does not crash if I just spend turns without doing anything.
The game does not crash if I just move my units.
The game does not crash if I build buildings AFTER the first turn.
The game DOES crash if I build something the first turn.
Any idea what would make the game crash if I build something on the first turn? And why would this not be fixed if I un-installed and re-installed Med2 and SS? Is it a problem with directories and whatnot?

magick
please go to the expanded FAQ's #16 to find how to turn trace on.
If you then post the last 20/30 lines of the trace we should get a better idea of what the problem is.
