Default female faction leaders - is it possible?

    Hello,

due to my project "Ages of darkness 2" we are creating at the moment a new family tree.

In the case of the Ostrogothi we have following situation:
The old king Theoderic died and the crown went to his daughters' son Athalaric. However, this son was too young to rule the kingdom (he was 11).
His mother - the daughter of Theoderic - ruled in the name of the son until he became old enough.

    So far, the historical facts.

    Now to the game:
It is not possible to make children to faction leaders. This is hard-coded.

what kind of solutions are possible?

Solution 1: I can add (to name.txt and descr_names) a female name to my male-name list. That has a big disadvantage: The portrait is still that of a man. And perhaps in the future - who knows - a son will be born with the name "Amalasuntha" (a female gothic name)

Solution 2: I make the son 5 years older. Then he is 16 and can rule. In the worst case I will chose this way. However, it is a little bit a-historic.

Solution 3??: and now I come to the point. Is it possible to code it via descr_strat that the women - called Amalasuntha - is declared faction_leader?

Has anybody tried that before? Any experiences?

    Thanks for the answers
    and best regards

I don't think that women can be faction leaders (in-game , don't take me wrong ) .. If you have Alexander , i think you can give the "guy" with female name (so your faction leader) a custom 'portrait' , so she/he looks like a girl If you don't have it , however , i'd suggest you take option 1 .. If you list enough names in export_names.txt and all names-related files , the chance will be low that a new general gets the female name And in the worst case , if a general spawns with female name , you kill him off with a script

If you don't want to script , however , you can just do it manually in-game with the console

NP , but as i said , i think option 1 is the way to go Just make a script that will kill the character if he spawns witht eh female name: ) I think it should look something like this (i don't know if this is correct - most likely not - , but i assume that HouseofHam or some other scripters know how to make a good script for this .. i'll try it now ) :

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    script

; Anything following a semicolon is a comment , and will not be read by the game

monitor_event GameReloaded TrueCondition ; This is used for reloading a background script .. Check out HouseOfHam's tuto on how to ;make a background script
    terminate_script
    end_monitor

    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
    ;;; Your code
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

    ; I don't know if this will work ..
    monitor_event SettlementTurnStart SettlementIsLocal
and I_LocalFaction 'your_faction' ; So that it doesn't kill of AI character when you're another faction
and I_TurnNumber < 99999 ; For all turns before turn 99999 (so every turn)
    end_monitor

    console_command kill_character "Women name(Amalasuntha)"

    ;;;; End

    while I_TurnNumber < 99999
    suspend_unscripted_advice true
    end_while
    end_script

It would be nice to have a female as a leader of your faction.

You can do it, but it would involve a complete switch of roles for a particular faction. If you swapped the first names of the men and women (in descr_names.txt) and all the portraits, then all the characters would be women and the men would be in a subservient role. This would be a good option for a matriarchal faction. Of course it wouldn't be perfect as any bribed characters would be male if they came from a faction that wasn't altered.

This is what I did for the Amazon culture in ATW. Another thing this affects are the spies, diplomats, and assassins, who use the same name pool that the generals do.

I have yet to successfully bribe a male general into an Amazon faction. I keep trying though, because if he later married, I am assuming it would be to a man (as all of the 'wives' are male for the Amazons). It would be interesting to see him have children that way.

I've bribed a number of male generals into Amazon factions and vice versa, and if my memory serves correctly, none of them ever married.

    Interesting point Squid
But I really need only 1 woman. The Alex.exe-feature is exactly what I need. In this mod you can give portraits to the characters.
However, with BI not possible. :-(

Well , the only bad thing is the portrait , although you could (i think) make a new female portrait , but then you have the same error again as with the names , but here you can't use scripts .. As for the names , a script could do it , you could ask HouseOfHam or some other experienced scripter how to do it

Not really - closest you can get if you have an entire spare unused faction and culture... is to have
Amalasuntha start in descr_strat as faction heir, but coded as sub_faction of 'spare_faction' that is only one using that name, and have spare_faction as only faction using the culture that uses female portraits in stead of males...

problem remains that I don't think you can code in strat a 'wife' who looks male via the 'sub_faction' dodge, so she'll end up as a lesbian, when she marries....

    that's the problem.
    I understand what you said.

I think I will make the son some years older. Then he is 16 and is king of the goths.
Not nice (normally he is 11) - however - it is a solid solution.

You could also give this guy a trait along the lines of,

'Boy King'. In order to placate religious doctrine this man's true age has been shrouded in secrecy.

'Boy King'. In order to keep the royal blood line in 'the family,' this man's true age has been shrouded in secrecy.

I guess you should then also add a trigger that will remove that trait when he comes of age.

I don't know the background of the Amazon faction. But you have only 2 options to include female faction leaders.

1.you create a new culture and all character portraits are female
    2. or you trigger that

But it's not possible to declare in descr_strat a women to "leader" or "heir".

If you put all female names in the male section and all male names in the female section, then it's "possible".

this is perhaps a solution for a mod like Amazon - but no solution for any other mod.
If you have a "normal" faction - let's say the goths - and you need only 1 women as leader then your "trick" is no solution.

    Again:
You can't declare a woman in descr_strat to the faction leader or heir.
    This is a hardcoded restriction.
