When you create a new unit or retexture a current one you will sometimes need to get rid of some unnecessary details like straps, medals and something like that. In this tutorial you will learn how to get rid of them without messing with actual meshes and 3d models.
I will use the model "wild_geese" to show the process.
This is a unit created by Hrimfar. As you can see, there is a black head bandage and hat insignias on the unit, which I find unnecessary.
Here is a diffuse texture of "wild_geese" model
As you can see, the red line outlines the details of the unit that are some kind of details not connected to the model. Instead, these details are in some way 'attached' to the model.
How to get rid of them?
First you should go to alpha channel as seen on the picture
Then you should colour any white details in the alpha channel to black.
That's the way you can delete or change any of these attached details on the unit.
This is the result - my Russian Line Infantry
As you can see, there are no head bandages or these little medals on the hats.
The work is done =)
