    Default Pacifism

How do you think about pacifism?

It appears to be growing here in Europe as people feel safe.
There are voices wanting to abolish the amy and ask larger European nations to defend us...
The think the money should be spent on welfare, education and (how pacifist) foreign aid.

Alhough (in my country) there are some large parties that want to increase the military budget to atleast NATO standards and even rumours about doubling it...

Do you think pacifism is a good and viable thing?

EDIT: I forget to select the option that allows you to see who voted, sorry.
Maybe a mod can do this?
Any way please post what you'v voted.

    I voted option 2.

Ideally, the military budget should be as low as possible. Ideally there would be no wars or armies.

I picked that it should stay the same. The military budget is fine right now, pre-war it wasn't that good cause Clinton came in and tore it up, but right now it's solid.

The military budget should be increased for the United States. It's how we get most of our technology from. All this spending on garbage the Obama wants shouldn't happen,. and would allow for more military spending without making the defecit go insane.

I don't think so. It's a minor set back but the project has been going on far too long and it's nearing completion, it's not going to get canked.

I think ideally the EU Should have in place a command and control structure across nationa boundarie, not a true EU army, but protocls in place so that the various national militaries can be intergrated smoothly for combined operations.

You mean in addition to Nato?

As to the poll -- I have not a clue where this answer fits the choices:

Seriously each and every nation needs to assess and evaluate their defense needs. There may be times for net increases and times for net decreases. More important is the allocation with defense to meet changing condtions. At the moment, the West needs a broader airlift and supply capability across more nations. Too much relies on the USA and this is not good for the USA or for the other Western nations. The day of heavy armor divisions is not past, but the numbers can certainly be cut back. This is the kind of reassesment and adjustments that are needed.

For us, the UK, the budget needs to be increased or managed more efficiently if we are to keep meeting our current military commitments. Maybe sack a few hundred MOD penpushers.

    EU army can off.

My country, the UK, should shrink its armed forces severely and dump its nuclear deterrent and leave the French and the Germans to defend europe (and humanity in general) from evil with ‘soft power’.
Nothing will happen except a lot of talk.
The world will fall off its hinges.
    Millions will die.
More importantly my taxes will be lower and no one will try to kill me on my way to work because the UK will not matter anymore.
    Everybody loses except me.
    Perfect.

You do realize that with or without the nuclear weapons in the UK, the UK goes if the rest of the world goes off its hinges. Unilateral disarming is never a good answer. Best bet would be that you would lose. Maybe you should search for a better solution before disarming????

I think for the US, our best solution is to keep the military budget at what it is now or even decrease it a small amount. We need to focus on getting the economy back up to par and then we could re-increase it then. Otherwise the possibility that we could become a bankrupt nation in the future increases, and that scares me.

The military budget should either be decreased (slightly) or kept where it is now.

    And pacifism is not realistic.
