    Default Where are the Highlanders?

I just eventually got the game delivered out here and im around 1726 with the British but no clansmen of yet, do they spawn during the 45 rebellion or some other shenanigans? I dreamt of a highland charge

I dont believe England has any Scottish soldiers (apart from special units like the Black Watch).

Scotland is an emerging faction if i recall (so there will have to be a rebellion in England for them to appear). Never seen Scotland in any of my games, so cant say anything about their unit roster.

Although I think the fact that British artillerymen yell out "Highlanders!" with a heavy Scottish accent is a bug from CA's side, rather than something intentional.

It would make sense totally considering most officers at the time were imbeciles,

Sergeant: Where should we put the big hairy-balled Highlanders with Swords sir?
Genereal smythe Smythe 4th: Why in the artillery you siwy siwy peasant

Still, would they really yell "Highlanders"? Wouldn't that confuse a general trying to command them? Surely, he would want them to yell something like "Artillery!". Yelling "highlanders" the general might as well expect his artillerymen to draw their broadswords and charge into battle like brave Scotsmen, instead of firing the cannons.

You'll notice that the Highlanders have been assigned unto some of the British artillery.

Louisiana has a duplicate French roster just New Spain has a duplicate Spanish roster. End of pointless debate.

Perhaps the 13 Colonies should get a duplicate British roster too.

If you don't like the debate, leave. (Please.)

They basically do have a duplicate British roster, do they not? In almost all games Louisiana and New Spain and the 13 Colonies disappear from the game very quickly unless it's modded, so it's hardly surprising they weren't assigned separate, detailed unit rosters. Talking as if CA actually think the Royal Ecossais fought in Louisiana is ridiculous.

Default Where the hell are my Highlanders!?!

Where in Gods name are my kilt wearing, basket hilt broad sword weilding, bag piping Scottish bad asses!? They said there would be highlanders, and I don't see any in the grand campaign. Am I missing something? And having my cannon crews saying highlanders when I click on them doesn't count!

Well you get the Black Watch, but I agree...

    Show me the Highlanders

They do seem to exist in multi player, according to this screenshot.

The player who had them didnt answer when I asked how he got them but I have an idea of how they might be obtained.

Despite them not being in the unit roster some units are probably 'available' in multi player battles, an obvious example is the Spanish 8" mortar which although not in the unit roster is included in the default load-out fpr Spain. Double clicking on this unit allows you to recruit further similar units.

Maybe messing with the default load-out for each faction will allow you to insert the 'missing' units which are otherwise available? I assume this would be some kind of alterable config file, but I haven't investigated that yet.

The French and Spanish have expat Scottish forces. The English can recruit the 42nd Foot from Scotland after their 3rd or 4th barracks level is built. Only from Scotland, regardless of who controls the region.

The Black Watch and Coldstream Guard are heading to India in my campaign, for training before they are set loose against Prussia.

It wouldn't be too hard to create a highlander unit recruitable in Scotland... just saying. One thing though, what type of infantry would they be (e.g line infantry, skirmishers, light or melee etc.)?

They're line infantry, it's actually pretty easy to put them in the game as they're already in the game, with a texture, model, and all of the stats for it are already fixed, all you need to do is assign it to the faction you want to be able to use it (unit_military_groupings_permissions and unit_exclusive_faction_permissions.) and where it can be recruited from (buildings_units_allowed) Go check out the "how to create a new unit" tutorial in the Mod Workshop, you'll get the hang of it quite fast. The RegionIDRef (this restricts recruitment to a specific region/continent, it's located in the units_tables) for Scotland is "scots" without the quotation marks, but I believe this already applies to the unit.

There are also early clansmen highlanders in the game with broadswords and shields, to be able to use them in late game, enter "units_tables" or unit_stats_land, it's one of them, can't remember which, and find the "Late Availability" column and put a True instead of a False in their row. This only allows you to use them in Custom Battles, to make them recruitable you'll have to do the same as you do with the highlanders above.
