Mortars firing without mortars

OK, so I was playing a custom battle between the Ottomans (me) and Austrians, and both of us have one set of mortars. The first shot of the battle from my mortars kills off half of their mortar unit, routing them:



Now, later on they come back (just before I made that screenshot) and set up right behind their line and start shooting off with mortar shots. I forgot to paste the screenshot from this one before taking the mortar one, so I don't have one. I just thought that it was kind of ridiculous. I still totally crushed the Austrians, but it did score a lucky hit that left about 15 cavalry dead before my other cavalry stormed them and routed them, winning the battle.

How is it ridiculous that the ghosts of Austria's past keeps them firing? Well, where do I start.

It wasn't that they routed and then took positions back at their mortars and started firing, it was that they set up where there was no artillery at all and started firing. They didn't even look like they were in any sort of formation that looked like they were shooting artillery. They just stood in a straight line with no artillery but randomly shot off mortar rounds.
