Default Questions: horse grenadiers, pistols and upkeep

    I have a few questions, mostly modding-related:

    1. Has anyone used the "Horse Grenadier guard" unit? Is it any good and which factions should get it?

    2. I hear it's possible to add pistols to infantry and cavalry, how is that done and does it work "properly"?

    3. I personally think unit cost and upkeep are way too low. It makes the game uninteresting and the battles pointless when every nation runs along with 10 full stacks. I basically know how to mod those, but i'm very lazy so if there a mini-mod available it would save me a lot of trouble

    Thanks

It's in the game but nobody can recruit it, kind of like the norwegian ski troops

Historically, horse grenadiers were most famously used by the British. The Russians, Prussians and others used them too. There were really just dragoons with grenades.

They work in the game fine, you just have to set available period in units db and enable them in units_to (whichever you prefer) and building_units_allowed. They're tougher than dragoons in melee and can dismount the same, didn't try grenades though.

    Ok thanks.

So i assume no one has had success in adding pistols yet. I'll look into it then. Well, my idea was adding them as precursor weapons (like you could have javelins in RTW, the unit would throw them and then charge). Does anyone know if that can be done in ETW?

Edit: there is a camel rider unit that has pistols, so the animations should be there. I just have to find them

Adding pistols as a secondary weapon should be fairly easy if they have a melee weapon as primary, you just need to edit the relevant entry in warscape_equipment_themes.

Getting them to shoot with them would be very difficult, they would have to get very close, and in how shooting works they would need to get in formation and stop which takes an eternity, if they would be able to shoot while running, and use the pistols in melee, it would be useful.

The best horse grenadiers were French.

Blank, you have to mess up with animation tables and fragments. They are in animation pack and they are txt files.
