    Default Problem With Steam

When the patch came out on the 10th I had Steam's auto download off, or so I thought... I turned on my Computer and wham I was getting a download....all my modded files had to be re-installed.

So I checked the auto download in the steam properties and sure nuff it was set to auto so I changed it to turn it off.

The 25th rolled around and out comes another patch (of course I didn't know it untill I turned on my computer and noticed steam was kinda busy... and to my surprise it was updating the new patch onto my PC... I paused and thought didn't I switch that off?? I checked again and what do you know the auto download was on.

So this time I carefully observed myself as I went back into properties and turned it off. and then I had to turn back around and re-install the modded files.

I Played all day on the 25th and into the 26th (today) and I saved the game to go eat... came back and reloaded it and noticed something was changed (I had edited some of the unit building times and they all appeared to be back to vanilla standards...) I thought how is that possible. So I checked the files and what do you know! they were all changed back to vanilla. I thought i'll be damned what did I do wrong?

I went crazy trying to figure out what had happened after all it couldn't be another update?... I mean how? I knew for a fact auto updates where turned off no doubt about it. but for the sake of shorting this story a bit, the fact was I checked Steam and there had been another update on the 26th and auto update had turned itself back on no doubt about it.

So from now on I guess I just have to play in offline mode. anyone else had this happen?

I have been unable to run steam again.. then only time I can play in the weekends... I'm considering other 'options' since I already bought the game but can't play during my free time....

Yes, had the same thing happen twice: Steam magically changing the upgrade setting back to auto when I had set it to do not auto update. I'm not sure under what circumstances - perhaps when it downloads a new version of the Steam client itself and restarts but that is just a guess.

I was luckier than the OP in that I was checking the settings myself when I noticed this, so it didn't cause an unwanted upgrade. I had got into the habit of starting Steam in offline mode every time and would recommend that to anyone. Stay offline, check the forums for news of patches/upgrades/hotfixes and wait to see reports of their usefulness before upgrading. And always check what the setting for upgrades is before going online (and after the upgrade in case it has reset itself).

I'm getting a headache remembering the difference between March the something Steam official patch, March the something else Steam official hotfix, March the who knows what german and possibly other languages secret hotfix, official March the something hotfix fix and who knows what else.

Give us Version Numbers CA. Thank you.
