I'm playing as Britain in 1766, & I have just stepped foot in India. I notice Portugal has a colony in Goa.
Do they start with a colony in India or has there been a naval invasion of India by Portugal?

A historical fact

Yes, Portugal starts with Goa as a colony.
They also have Macao, somewhere in China... had/have. Don't know how it stands now.
Remember to pillage BEFORE you burn!
Macau is already part of China, but under a special policy.
Portugal had Goa, Brazil, Moçambique, East Timor, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea, Congo (originally Portuguese, only in the 19th century the belgians took it), Saint Tomé and Príncipe and Azores.
I don't understand why CA didn't make Portugal a playable faction and why all the Portuguese colonies are "trade posts" and not actual colonies... they could at least make Portugal start controlling this trade posts.
Hope that in an expansion, after the Napoleonic war, they make south american colonies properly and maybe a campaign with the bolivarian and the brazilian indepedences.
We are the first colonists, and when I play GB after invade India,I start a war with my country, just because they,we?,took some territories south of Goa.
On my campagin Mathras has broken into Europe, around Asia Minor
They dont invade, but they do trade.
I saw france owning celyon (sri lanka), and lithuania changed hands 3times sinds I gave it back to the polish (courland)(russia) without war.

In my GB game, Spain bought?/traded Ceylon off the Dutch... and then gave it to the Swedes. The Portuguese also gave Goa to the Swedes. Don't know how Sweden could have afforded it though as they spent pretty much the entire game with their only trade port blockaded by the Danish.
I dont know why Portugal is not a power in the game. It would be interesting to play with them.
:O its been there until 1974.

portugal attempted to take over the indian ocean trade network that was in existance for hundreds of years prior. As quickly as they established their trade outpost, they were just as quickly lost. Europeans attempted different ways to control/manipulate the indian ocrean trade network like they did in the mediteranein. The english with the east indian co. were the only ones to establish real domenance and establish coloines.
