Default Saving between battles during turn change

During the AI's turn, I have fought several brilliant battles which took a long time to resolve... Only to fail miserably in one battle because of various factors. Since these battles take place during the AI opponents' turn, I have to keep reloading to the point before ending the turn and replaying the battles ALL OVER AGAIN.

I read someone mentioning it but am not sure if it's true - Can I actually save after winning a battle during the AI's turn and reload from that point?

I agree this could be useful, but I haven't seen anything to indicate it could be done. That doesn't mean a method doesn't exist, just that I've never seen it. I'm at work so I can't try this myself, but have you attempted to hit the ESC key during the AI turn? Or, perhaps it may be related to when the system actually autosaves?

In the beginning, I was hung up on re-doing battles until I won, but then one day I was too tired to fight a long battle again and just let the results stand. I've found that I enjoy the challenge of picking up the pieces after my mistakes, so I no longer do any battles over again. I've lost provinces, an entire fleet, taken horrific casualties, lost experienced units, etc., but all in all it just makes each encounter more 'real' and important to me, with the result that I'm learning my lessons sooner.

Anyway, this was not meant as a criticism for your play style, simply a recounting of my own. Something tells me I would easily reload if I lost my eight star general to something silly - such as getting his head blown off by my own cannons.

You can save the game from each battle screen. In the center of the dialog there is the disc platter icon. If you have a series of battles over the course of the AI turn, you can save at each one. I will test after my next battle if a save can be made without a battle DURING the AI turn.

You can certainly bring up the menu and LOAD, but I've never tried to save.

Hey Coman, I tried this but no luck.

"Centre of the dialog" - What / which dialog? Are you referring to the Battle Results screen? So I hit ESC and it'll allow me to save? I've tried saving in battle and there are only options to "Quit Battle", "Resume Battle" and "Quit Game".

I can't recall correctly but I remember there was a time when I hit ESC during the AI turn and it brought up the usual menu. But since then I can't.

I haven't seen the save button before battles, but you can certainly save with the ESC button.

I always save before a second battle, in case I get a CTD.

In previous TW, I used to quicksave (ctrl-s) between defensive battles. Should work in ETW too, although I have not tried yet.

You can save before a battle during the AI's turn, quit the game, and reload from that very spot. You'll fight the battle and then the AI turn continues. It's useful for when it's 1:30ish am and the cherokee's suddenly decide they want Savannah back, or some such.

I tend to save before every battle.
