Default How-To Increase Performance of Steam

Ok so i noticed people had alot of issues with steam, after a little testing i noticed that by simply deselecting some options in steam would actually half the amount of memory steam consumes.

    This is how it went:

The first image is of a typicall steam install; this means you simply installed steam and havnt messed about with any options.

The image is of a process list show the memory consumption of ETW and Steam.

The next image is of the same process list, just a options deselected from steam setting and voila!

Notice how in both processes of ETW are running at about the same memery consumption. Yet Steam is less than half and GameOverlayUI is gone. This was done by simply.

Open Steam> Select the 'Settings' option> Select the 'Friends' Tab and deselect 'Automatically sign into Friends when i start Steam'.

Now goto the 'In-Game' tab and deselect 'Enable Steam Community In-Game'

Nice find, although 18 mb of memory usage isn't enough to make me cringe in fear of steam, considering windows is using 3 times that.

fair enough but GameOverlayUI causes alot of conflicts in games. expecially if u enable sounds, it seems steam forces this on games and i dont really no what effects it may cause. so by simply disabling this option you might in turn solve an issue with steam of etw.

Lol, if you're worried about 18mb of memory than you shouldnt be playing ETW on your terrible cpu

Nothing to do with CPU. im affraid you missed the point. im simply try to figure out what effect GameOverlayUI and steam have on the game. so far i found that program 'GameOverlayUI has caused conflict with sound, which causes a sort of screen stutter like lag. but its not, just a conflict with drivers. which one is anyones guess at the moment
