How many people here think a movie about the fall of Constantinople would be awesome? IMO it would be a great setting for an epic war movie.

This is probably the 100th thread about this subject.
And each time it ends with this: it would be awesome, and we here would all love it, but there isn't a large enough fanbase or support for it anywhere else.

If they made a movie like that and in one of the last scenes, when the battered Byzantines prepare themselves for the final onslaught of the Turkish hordes and they'd play Dawn of the Iconoclast by Dead Can Dance in the background, I would cry tears of honor.
I would only do that if it was a good movie. No sure thing with a movie, ever.
a Movie about the Siege of Constantinople... It would just be like the Siege of Minas Tirith in Return of the King only here Mordor wins![]()
The Ottomans are all things evil?
Scrap that...I won't give Carpathian Wolf the pleasure![]()

Why are we making a movie from one viewpoint? Talk about lame. This movie will not be good.
This is a movie that requires a dual viewpoint. I am thinking perhaps from the viewpoint of two average soldiers in each army, culminating in a short clash between the two at the end. Ending with the Byzantine soldier dying at the blade of our Ottoman soldier. And then a sweep of the devastation and a sad look on the face of the surviving narrator.
Edit: Since I ended up not having to work, I can elaborate on my thoughts...
We have our Christian protagonist and our Muslim protagonist. The antagonist would be the duality of mankind. Movies that focus on the leaders in history can sometimes lose focus, because the script becomes to obsessed with the character in history.
So you focus on the common soldier. The person that everyone can connect with. These two men, common in their dreams, hopes and prayers. They merely want to survive and go home to their wife and family. But tossed by fate into a calamitous battle. This way you can transition into scenes of the men and their families. This way you can add some depth to the characters and to put a female presence on the screen.
Either way, you progress through the film to the very end, as the Byzantine defenders valiantly die the two protagonists meet on the field. Ending with the Muslim protagonist slaying the Christian protagonist. As the Christian dies, spurting blood on his lips, he whispers the name of his wife. Then the Muslim looks over the devastation, sees the Ottoman banner being raised and looks east and whispers the name of his wife.
Roll Credits.
Build up the theme of the brotherhood of Humanity we all share. And then in one scene express the duality of Man. At the saem time the brotherhood we share and the death we sow amongst ourselves.
My internal dialog was really rolling tonight.

Wow your idea sounds terribly cheesy. 2 guys who only fight because they have to and want to go home to wife and kids, that's real original and so moving. It's Gladiator all over again "I'm a badass roman general but I just wanna go home to my wife and kids because none of this matters to me".
How bout some more interesting characters instead, at least someone with a bit of command, not johnny average who's wondering what he's doing there.
It doesn't have to be the leaders of each side, but someone with importance at least. For once they could make a movie about a historical event again and not one where the "hero" just happens to experience a historical event and totallying influences it.
More sex and violence at least.
In all fairness, if such a movie were to be made, I would be greatly dishonored if it was more of a gay romance instead of the action/moralistic movie that it deserves to be.
Nor does it have to be as cheesy or as horrible as Kingdom of Heaven. SoC can very well be as awsome as 300, but also be as factually correct as to suit most historian's assertions.
The real thing was certainly exciting enough.
I would love a Fall of Constantinople movie. "The city is fallen but I am alive" *leads his last few men into the fray*
