Ok, it seems E:tw practices racial discrimination. The bugs I get depend on the nation I am playing.
Summary:
If you are German, you wont be able to load your save games.
If you are English, you wont be able to see your save games.
Long story:
So I got empire total war. Being a noob about the new naval warfare and trade theatres, I decided to play one of the most land based nations, Prussia.
While playing the Prussians, I made several saved games, including one made immediately at the start, before any action was taken. After some playing, I had to quit the game to get some sleep.
On the next day, I tried to load my saved files. None of them worked. The loading bar loads to the end, but nothing else happens. The game just stays there, gun fire ringing out in the distance.
So I decided to see if it was a problem with the game being unable to load save files at all. I started a new campaign as Britain. I made another virgin save, before any action had been taken. I also made a save before the end of the first, second, third, fourth and fifth turns.
Then I tried to see if I could load the British save files. Trying to load from the main menu, I got the grey screen of death. None of the save files were visible, and I was unable to exit the load menu.
No problem, I thought, I know how to solve this. I restarted the game, clicked continue campaign. The campaign load menu was blank, but I could leave it. I did a control-s to quick save, and that allowed my save games to reappear in the load menu.
I tried to load all the British save games, and they all loaded just fine.
I tried to load the Prussian save games, the game stalls in the loading screen, just like before.
In conclusion, it is my hypothesis that e:tw practices racial discrimination, assigning different technical problems of varying severity based on the race of the people in the save files.
p.s, this post is meant to be funny and not offensive in anyway, while reflecting the fustration that I am facing.
