Hello all, I've had Etw since it hit the shelves and read all the complaints and have a few myself. One thing that can easily be tweaked to make the game slower progress for those that feel the need to 'steam roll' is to make the conquered region revert back to the first level of advancement in the building tree.
I think that this will force people to change strategies.
For example - In The road to independence campaign (4) I tried to play historically on H/H level- I focussed on the natives and found my economy was very slow to take foot- this is because when you take the native american regions you cannot use their building tree, and have to start from the beginning which costs money.
I changed plans and declared war on Britain with about 15 turns left. I quickly took 3 regions and my income quadrupled. I could have done this from the start and completed the tasks in no time.
Also midway in the campaign, I was assaulted in the Georgia region and the The Cherokee's took it- When I took it back - I had lost all my production levels. (thats a high price to pay but do you see where it would change the campaign game in the European theatre? It would force people to not expand too quickly and keep units back for defense.)
This of course after they tweak naval invasions and the way the AI moves on offense.
