Casualties after "End Battle"
Greetings,
I have now had it happen to me several times that my armies continue to take casualties, sometimes numerous, after setting all foes to flight and selecting "End Battle" rather then "Continue" and then spending more time chasing down people.
Now in earlier TW games I seem to recall that the option to conclude the battle only appeared when every enemy unit has been completely routed. Battle ended, often a bunch of enemy units escape but my guys don't have to schlepp all over the battle map and that's was pretty much it.
Now in Empire TW, "End Battle" seems more like "Autoresolve Battle" without addressing the factor that the remaining foe have all dropped their muskets and silly hats and are running for their lives.
If I "End Battle" I will almost always take further casaulties, sometimes a lot and from units that at the time of me ending the battle are nowhere near any enemies or should at that point be facing any situation that should result in them dieing in large numbers.
If I instead "continue" I can usually round up a whole lot of the poor benighted bastards as they run away without much loss on my side, though the odd dragoon may fall of his horse while pursuing. However, the units not engaged in any pursuit (artillery and most infantry) naturally don't take further casualties.
Now when playing battles out to the very end I have once in a while caused myself signifcant friendly fire casualties, doing silly things such as have cannon fire on fleeing units with my own cavalry in pursuit of said fleeing units
.
I would love to know how the AI concludes that I should lose 40+ of my Black Watch regiment when I had held them in reserve through the entire battle.
Needless to say, I now fight the battles to the very end, pretty much every time.
