Default Slightly lost with trade routes

    Heya there
How do you create trade routes? So far I've put trade ships on sea trade routes, not sure if it does anything?! Is it enough?
    Thanks for help!

You have to send trade ships (ones with gold 1's top right) to the trade theatres (by moving of the egdge of the map into teh grey areas and selecting the small circles). When the fleet arrives mouse over the trde ports yellow circles and right click to join a trade route will then be created

Trade routes are created automagicly when you use the diplomacy screen and negotiate trade rights with another nation. However you both need an open port at the time.

I havent figured out how putting ships on tradelines works. The enemy sits ships on my tradelines and they seem to go into piracy mode. I do the same with my ships and nothing happens. I did get one to go into piracy mode once by sitting it on the gold arrow near Istanbul.

I dont understand the use of Indiamen ships at all.

Thats different than the green trade route lines created from negotiating trade rights?

    ^^^^ that's right

When you place a ship or fleet on the trade route of an enemy country your ships will automatically raid their shipping. But if you're not at war with anyone using that trade route (when you mouse over it you can see who's using it) you won't raid any shipping.
