    Default Naval Ai

    heya guys. i´v been playing empire total war everyday since the release (single player gampaign) and in all of my games i noticed that ai factions only make trade ships, brigs, sloops or light galleons, im playing on vh/vh and havent seen a ship better than 5th rate on ai navies.
    its getting kinda ridiculous when im fighting with hms victory and 4 heavy 1 rates against 6+ light galleons.

    can anyone verify that ai indeed makes heavier ships later on? im at year 1740.

    sweden for me is making 6th and 5th rates in 1710
    which is bad for me cuz they keep blockading my ports

    I'm in the 1740s as the French and the Marathas have a couple of second rates. I think the British had one too. Since the AI never does anything with their ships, you just have tons of floating junk around.

    When I played as Prussia and invested nothing in my naval tech tree, there came at about 1740 the message, that France got the first first rate and steamship.

    playing as US 1799 I am fighting against GB on control on the Atlantic.
    battles of 15 - 20 ships each side even 1st rate ...

    but still the army is stack in the port ant mounting on invasion.

    VH/VH vanila.

    I'm sure I saw at least one British Third Rate in one naval battle.

    GB grand campaign -currently at 1766.

    Pirates - produce mostly flutes(sp), galleons and a few race galleons and brigs/sloops.

    Dutch - produced mostly flutes(sp) and brigs. At a time when I was producing my first 2nd rates. Wiped them out about 15 years ago.

    Spanish -galleons and flutes, brigs and sloops. Been at peace for some 40 years now.

    French - no battles with them yet, but they have toms of ships in my trading lanes and the Irish sea. From what I can tell they are all brigs and sloops.

    i was able to build second rates in 1730 playing GB. GB fleets rule the sea.

    In the late period game so long as the AI has the money to, you'll see 1st and 2nd rates.
    I think its an issue with how pressing of a need it sees what needs to be built. But as Spain at 1758 I am fighting GB 2nd and 3rd rates at the moment.

    The biggest ship that my enemy build when i was GB, was a 3rd rate. Even though they (France, Spain, Sweden) already were able to build heavy 1st rates.

    So yeah, it's kind of a problem. I think Mods will sooner or later fix that.

    (I don't count Galleons, because Spain and the Pirates already have them in 1700).

    In my VH campaigns AI does recruit 2nd class ships, and it recruit lots of them. It always builds naval hospitals because tech required for building them is lower than tech required for building steam drydocks. So, in AI fleets there are usually few 2nd class, few 3rd class, few 4th class and a lot of light ships (5th, 6th rate, sloops, brigs). It never builds 1st rate ships and (thanks god ) it never recruits rocket ships. I`ve seen one or two bomb ketches (sp?) tho.
    P.S. I`m talking about 1740s fleets.
