    Default Ask for surrender option

This new battle siege option is a nice addition to ETW, but since i've started i have never had once the AI surrender to me, even with impossible winning odds on his time, and autoresolve earning me less than 10 kills.
Did anyone ever managed to get it to work ?

In about 100+ sieges so far.. no I have not.

My only guess is they left it there as an option for if/when Mp campaign battles ever happened.

Every single siege I've hit the "request surrender" button, just to see if the AI might decide to fold.

Even in the face of overwhelming odds, even when I respectfully request the AI lay down arms to avoid a pointless massacre...not once did the settlement surrender.

They tell me to go # sand.

I had two full stacks (3200 men) sieging a city that had 4 men inside (an artillery team). They refused.

The Demand Surrender option is largely believed to be broken... I personally have never seen it either.

It's worked for me once. In the RTI campaign, I did it on Montreal (or maybe the river fort near Montreal, not sure), and they agreed. The thing is, it didn't hand the place over to me, so I ended up pressing 'autoresolve' anyway. Oh well.

Apparently you need to wait (besiege) town few turns before asking garrison to surrender.
I haven`t tried this because I always attack as soon as possible, but someone here on TWC said that this tactics (besiege few turns and then ask for surrender) actually works.

I tried that repeatedly and it makes no difference.

Just to clarify, the surrender option is supposed to let the enemy army retreat from the city safely?

That's what's supposed to happen, yes: The enemy army retreats from the city and you get it, and they avoid dying and can consolidate themselves into a useful stack later, in theory. But apparently they would rather die in futile massacres.
