Please insert the correct cd-rom error

I get a message saying " please insert the correct cd-rom, select ok and restart the application"

My friends wanted my game, i hadnt touched it in a year, so i give it to him.
Then i get urge to play again because i cant play empire, so he makes backup.
It was already installed, so i put the CD, which is the copy one not the original, and it gives me this error.
I really want to play and dont want to sound like a and ask for the game back seeing that he loves it, please help

Copies don't work. Buy a new game or get yours back.
