    Default Early revolution or not?

Will I have to deal with a second revolution later, after researching a lot of enlightenment techs?

It's so easy to complete a successful revolution in the first few turns of the game. Take Prussia for example. Berlin doesn't have any fortifications so if you move the army out of the region before the revolution, your rebel army will have a very easy time with taking the city and replacing the absolute monarchy with a republic.

    What is the downside?

I cannot tell you exactly, what the effects of a revolution are.

But i expirienced, that revolutions are still pretty easy in later periods of the game. It did not really make a difference to me, whether it was in the first rounds or at 1750.

The downside is that you lose the awesome Prussian monarchy flag in favor of the lame Prussian republic flag.

Also you can't replace ministers whenever you want/your leader's bonuses have less effect. Also you get new ministers every few turns.

And generally speaking unless you intentionally piss off the middle class you will not have any more revolutions.

AFAIK Enlightenment techs don't give unhappiness penalties to republics, although schools still do.

Yeah I was disappointed to lose that flag in my Prussia campaign. Also I was expecting something cooler for the United States Monarchy flag.

You can replace ministers whenever you want by firing them, but you can't be sure you'll get someone any better. You can't pick the best candidates out of the opposition like you can in a monarchy though.

Although if your entire government sucks, you can hold an instant election and will likely get someone better, perhaps even the good opposition candidates.
