The reason why there is a ctd or 'lag' is because of your cpu. When you click a naval unit or a port that contains a naval unit, the game calculates the pathing and range of travel. Early game it is not really a problem as there are only brigs/sloops with very short ranges. Our problem arises when the game progresses. One gets first rates and techs up things like copper hulls(which increases campaign map movement). I have tested this myself.
The real, yet impractical solution to this problem would be to put a sloop in each armada. I hope that clears things up for you guys. cheers
