Although this movie was supposed to be satire it does bring up some thoughts (atleast for me) The plot is a mockumentary of what would happened if the Confederates won the civil war.

Has anybody else seen this? What opinions do you have of it?

Yeah, I saw that around when it was released on DVD. IMO, it got pretty repetitive. I seem to have a built in limit on the amount of times I can hear the word "," satire or not.

    Edit: That's the N-word.

    Yeah, a real what if?

Some parts were out and out stretches but it really makes you wonder. America as an Isolationist slave-owning nation. Some good and bad aspects to keeping the slaves. Lots of bizarre anti-American and anti-conservative satire, then again that is the whole point of the movie.

i liked it but historically i dont know if simply losing Gettysburg would have spelled defeat for the Union.

Did the movie address Vicksburg? The siege ended on the same day and was also a really crushing defeat for the Confederates. The Confederates lost roughly 33,000 men in that siege. Which was more than at Gettysburg. And what about Antietam? That was the battle that really put the nail in the coffin for recognition from Europe. Even if they won at Gettysburg, still losing Vicksburg and the losses incurred in Gettysburg wouldn't be enough to change the mind of the Europeans, at least I would think so.

i forgot if it mentioned Vicksburg or not. but that was exactly my point, a Union defeat at Gettysburg would have only prolonged the war and perhaps have moved the battlefields more north. as for Antietam, it had the potential to end the war by years end, but McClellan didn't want to lose men in the pursuit.

the British were debating intervening in the war as late as 1863 but through clever diplomacy on the American side the the signing of the EP, foreign thoughts of involvement were put to an end.

its a dumbass movie and basically a racist stereotype; if the south had won the war slavery would have been abolished eventually anyway( as the need for skilled workers increased in an industrial south)

but yeah as a southerner I see this movie as just a bunch of yankees circle jerking each other over someone they defeated a century and a half ago

I wouldn't say so. I think It showed a possible scenario if the civil war went the other way.

I can't really see any reasonable conclusions other than the useful help the UK and France would've provided if the war wasn't about slaves. But even with their aid winning the war wasn't very likely.

It was a great film, but I think it mirrored the actual twentieth century of the US a little too much.

Interesting nonetheless. And the commercials were hilarious.
