Default [PASSED 04/03/09] [Citizen] Ketzerfreund (Patron: PowerWizard)

    Client: Ketzerfreund
Why I still want to be a citizen and why I think I'll probably be more "properly" worthy now:

One month has passed now since my last application for citizenship. Back then the scope of the potential of being a citizen as seen by Thanatos was limited to my admittedly too scarce contributions to the D&D sub-fora.
In the meantime, however, the scope of this potential has become broader. Empire - Total War has been released, resulting in the modding community boiling up.
I am now a part of that community, another potato in the pot, so to say, trying my best to keep the helpful attitude for which Wiz had the kindness to offer his patronisation now.
Since I'm just another human, however - and I'm referencing my last citizenship application here - I'm not going to be so audacious as to assert that I'm perfect in that regard.
One of my major attributes regarding the approach at modding is imagination and optimism:
The question "Is that possible?" is flawed in itself. It expects an intraversable boundary from the very beginning.
"How might that be possible?" is the better question to pose. It invites the modder to the exploration of all his possibilities to reach his goals instead of demoralising him even before having taken a single step. Whether there are indeed borders that can't be crossed, will show during the process of approaching his goal, a process during which a lot can be learnt that will most probably be helpful elsewhere.

Regarding the D&D sections, the points I made in my last application still stand. I'm not going to post for posting's sake, unwilling to produce redundancy. And I'm not going to have myself lured into an argument with "incarnations of stubbornness". Giving in to that would just result in myself being another stone in the jetsam that can pull a boat down to the ground.
    ______________

For reference, this is the text I wrote for my last application (with some typos corrected):

Of all fora I have paid my visits to in The Net, the Total War Center is the one where I spend most my time regarding any kind of community activity. If I had the choice of holding a title anywhere, this is where I would want to.
Even most of the teens that can be found among the members of this forum are more mature than some 90 years olds on other similar platforms. A rare thing to find on The Net nowadays.
Sure, every now and then I read the occasional post in which someone complains about a place like, for example, the Political Mudpit being too much of a mudpit instead of a place of sophisticated discussion. Some of the topics do indeed seem to invite those inclined to constantly try to press their partly as much as extremist views on others. Yet, I fail to see what is so hard about keeping your own tone as calm as ever and also sticking to a topic.
There is a saying in Germany (and I'm sure it exists in other countries, too): "He who yells is wrong."

I may not be the most regular of posters around, but I try my best to make reading my posts as worthwhile as possible (besides the occasional one-liner in the Thema Devia, of course), which includes reducing redundancy. If a valid point others made before me over and over again that is constantly ignored, ridiculed or even insulted by the holders of other views, there is no point in trying myself. The result of doing so would most probably be a downward spiral, even if I tried my best to keep my tone as friendly as possible for a human being.

And, indeed, that's all we are, after all: Human beings. Human beings lose their nerves sometimes, human beings do sometimes have iron-cast stances on things, be it through experience or education, if not even indoctrination.
Reminding yourself of that helps avoiding becoming a thorn in the side of a community.

Reminding myself of that shall also help me satisfy the responsibility of holding the title of Citizenship as a representative of this great community.
    ______________

I had a hard time deciding between the "Citizen" or "Artifex" badge.
Although I'll spend far more time as part of the modding community, I'm never going to abstain from the D&D completely...
Ah well, I'll take the "Citizen".

    Regards,
    -Der Ketzerfreund.

    Dear CdeC members,

I noticed Ketzerfreund when lurking in the ETW General Discussion forum. His posts are standing out, not just because they are helpful, informative and well-constructed, but also because they are generally positive = trying to look for solutions to improve the game instead of complaining. Ketzer made a few minor modifications to ETW:

    ~ Ketzer's Guide On Mass Recruitment ~
~ Ketzer's Guide On Getting Rid Of Projectile Clairvoyance ~

He also started an ambitious project which aims to be a very useful modding resource: The World Map Community Project

Ketzerfreund has been on the boards for long enough to become an integral part of it, make good posts and valuable contributions to the modding community. And I can only respect him for the sincerity of his application letter.

    cheers,
    Wiz

    Previous attempt here.

I'll have to do my homework again though.

I've seen him about a bit in the Empires forum. Isn't he one the key guy behind the world map completion mod(s)? I'll need to look him up a bit more.

Haven't really been in the Empire forum since I was a moderator. I'll have to look him up as I'm curious as to the level of modders that will pick up the torch for the new game. Hopefully this will be an easy yes for me, but I am hard on those associated with the TW side of the forums.

I'm going to say yes. He's made decent posts in the D&D and he has a mature attitude about citizenship. Not an entirely bad combination.

Looks to be a solid member of the commmunity and has contributed. I looked through many of his post and couldn't find a bad one. His work with the map in Empire is just great, what he has already done is a great contribution and if he follows through it will be big. Yes for me.

Forgot to comment here. I didn't vote No on him last time, just didn't vote Yes either, since he was skirting the fence for me. He's maintained the consistency of quality posting that I noticed last time, and is fairly active in the modding scene as well, so I was inclined to tip over the fence into his court.
