What the hell is this about?

Just a tour through Russian history, or what? It was 90 minutes of weird dialogue in art galleries. Any one else seen this? It was really disappointing.

I have seen it. It's all filmed in the winter palace in St Petersburg.

The whole thing was shot in one 90 minute take that pretty damn impressive and shows how creative some filmmakers can still be. Personally I really enjoyed it. They needed to get everything absolutely right or else they’d have to re shoot it

It's not conventional and it’s that quality which makes it so refreshing and interesting to watch. (eg not hollywood)

It was an experiment in film: several hundred extras, hundreds of actors, intricately coreographed ceromonies and dances over a huge walking route and even set changes during scenes. It took over four years to prepare, one weekend to set up and one day to shoot the entire film. I thought it was a little bit overdrawn, there were definatly some pieces that lasted too long. But it def was an impressive accomplishment, all of the costumes were authentic, the china belonged to catherine the great and some of the actresses wore actual period royal jewelry.
