    Default Roger's Rangers

.. are useless. Seriously, for their cost.. they are a lot worse than, say, Grenzers, which are quite a lot cheaper. Green Jackets which are about 200 less are also a lot better and so on. Has anyone found ANY reason for their price except the unique name?

Rogers Range are available from pretty much the start of the game whereas other Units like Green Jackets for Example are Light Infantry which requires quite a lot of research

Yep but they're still only available in "late" in multiplayer and custom battle.

    whats your point ?
dont like 'em, dont use 'em, simple as that

The point is that they're way too expensive. With your logic "don't like 'em don't use 'em!" well d'oh.. of course I won't but it's just a stupid waste of space and they should fix them. Especially since they're SF units and people actually paid specifically for them.

no theyre not. nobody ever said special forces units would be better then stock units, they are just different.
and its not a waste of space cause you DONT HAVE TO use them.
and yes, you paid for SF units, but as i said above, nobody ever said those units were gonna be imba compared to the normal ones.

    Sigh..............................................

It's not that they're not better than normal units. It's that they are A LOT WORSE.

Oh really... you are the only person alive on this planet that can recruit Grenzers then, kind sir...

You pay for them because you get them earlier in the game. To get 125 range rifles requires top tech, which you won't get til what, 1750/1760? Rangers also move faster on the campaign map and are supposedly harder to spot. I used a force of rangers (albeit French ones whose name I forget) to cause absolute havoc against the British in my campaign, because they could hit the outlying buildings very easily and escape, causing loads of damage and luring troops away from cities.

In an MP or skirmish battle they are probably crap, but that's only a small part of the game.

Yeah, I can see how they could be useful in SP when you don't even have to worry about funds, but I was talking more about multiplayer/custom battle.

Well thats because they create more of a friendly neighborhood atmosphere.

I personally use nearly full stacks of rangers to clean up the American continent. They sure know how to murder those hapless natives.

Green Jackets are British Rifle skirmishers. High-tech unit.

Rangers are available from turn 1, when most people don't even have skirmishers. They are very good for a long time, having better morale and accuracy than even light infantry. They are certainly not "a lot worse". I use them all the time in my British game.

To the OP, if you are are talking about their effectiveness in stricltly multiplayer, that forum is thataway. ^^^ Take your multiplayer whines to that forum. We got plenty of our own whines here.

you are forgetting one thing. in the early (and mid) game without the fire by rank tech only the first line of line infantry can fire BUT all skirmishers like rangers and natives can fire if there are in range (and with better aim). they can hide almost in everywhere and high stamina means that they can run quickly to better firing positions. BUT they are BAD at CQ and .n battles with the native americans i needed line inf numbers and CQ skills.

althougt rangers are very cool and useful it creates a need of micro management in the battles

I'm not forgetting anything. Firstly, I'm not talking from the SP perspective.. and even if I was, other light inf units do the same/better than Roger's Rangers at a lower price.

No, Roger's Rangers is a separate unit, also American-recruited as the British.

Did you actually activate the SF units before starting that campaign?
