I've had E:TW for about 3 weeks now. Up until yesterday, I've had absolutely zero technical problems.
Yesterday, I use a hex editor for the first time; I was trying to set the campaign to 3 turns a year (2 summer and 1 winter). I followed instructions and the editing seemed to be a pretty simple step-by-step process.
When I was done with this tex editing, I went to launch E:TW. For the first time (just before the "Sega" screen usually appears), I got a pop-up box telling me that E:TW had quit working. I re-tried again and again: same result.
So I came to the conclusion that, even though my hex editing atempt seemed to go according to plan, that the reason E:TW would crash just prior to launch was clearly a result of my hex editing because it had never happened before and it happened right after. Simple enough.
I decided to simply uninstall E:TW and then do a fresh install. I did so and to my surprise the same problem occured. This is really confusing to me because whatever I did during my hex editing should be gone because I uninstalled; and the fresh install should work just the way it has over these past 3 weeks.
What could possibly make the game launch and run flawlessly since the day I got it, but then now not be able to complete launch with a fresh vanilla install? What should I do? Thanks in advance
