Default Can Xanthippos be adopted to the family?

I was browsing through my old savegames today and played one particularly nice battle with Carthage against a stack of heavy infantry of Rome.

Xanthippos was commanding officer and if it wasn't for his Spartans and their ability to turn a battle around I'd most probably lose it.

After the battle which was a clear victory despite huge advantage Romans had in quality but not numbers I saw this thing below.

Does it mean I can adopt Xanthippos making him an actual member of the family, not just some allied general dude whose kids won't be given the honour of joining my glorious faction? Or is it just a glitch? And does it include all the allied generals out there or only this particular one?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I believe he becomes a member of your family instead of an Allied General, but I'm not sure - I did get a similar offer from an Allied General when playing as the Romans, but I didn't like his traits so I decided not to take him in.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

Sadly he still has his Allied General trait after the adoption and getting a Barcid trait.

I should be a true Carthaginian anyway and after this win put Xanthippos on a boat and sink him into the sea.

Who is this guy? I'm not very learned in history from that time period (Though I'm reading a book about Alexander... Man, he was lucky.)

Xanthippos was a Spartan mercenary who worked for/with the Carthaginians during the ... Second, I believe ... Punic War. Might've been the First.

Yes. He was hired by them, won them one battle in Tunisia (even killed a Consul) and then broke Roman siege of Lilibeo. They were jealous of his success so they put him on a boat that had holes in it.

He sank into the sea... and Carthage lost the war.

My tradition in this game is to hire the guy, let him win a couple of battles and then do exactly what Carthaginians did historically. I put him on a boat and attack Eleuthoroi until it sinks.

It kind of amuses me each time I see that "Death on the sea: Xanthippos". I guess I have twisted sense of humour. :-)

I believe it is possible to adopt him and have him join your family tree.

Since the EB traiting system doesn't take this rare option into account, you may get some weirdness, like him still being called an allied general or getting weird/wrong ethnicity traits.

For roleplaying, I wouldn't recruit him. Had he survived the war, he probably would have gotten payed and returned to Hellas.

According to Lazenby, The First Punic War, page 106, Xanthippos was not killed, but made governor by Ptolemy IV Euergetes in 245 B.C.E. (Wikipedia)
