Somewhere along the trade route your being raided, it doesnt necessarily have to be directly outside your port/blockade, send a scout ship out along the dashed line from UK -> US and see where the raiders are, they will have a flashing pirate flag above them if they are in the act of raiding the trade route. Once u see where they are, assess their strength, a good indicator of this is how many unit cards come up when u have a unit in range of the fleet and click on it, then either get together a slightly bigger fleet and set sail, or build a specialised fleet in your harbours and then after the battle keep it near the trade route or raiding nearby enemy trade routes. Keep your free navies raiding as often as possible, it helps provide for their upkeep, and sometimes brings in a little income.

He says the route is blockaded, not raided, wihich is quite a difference as raiding takes only a part of your income while blockading sets it to 0.
I have the same bug, though I have not absorbed the 13 colonies (playing britain)....at least now I know why I never had any big income before I installed that unit mod lowering all upkeep costs...

If raiding is done with enough ships, it has the same effect as blockading; reducing the trade to zero.

Raiding a trade route that way will give you the income.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

So does that mean that in order to completely cut off a trade route one needs to do it in seperate points to bring to to zero? The idea that some ships get through the first fleet but not the others.

It would make more sense that way.

It means that one of your trade ports in the American theatre is under the control of an enemy fleet, the same way an enemy army can occupy one of your towns.

Just trace the trade route back until you find the port with the enemy flag on it, send a local unit to turf the buggers out and repair it afterwards.
