    Default Duck Shoot

I know there are a lot of threads about idiotic AI and what not, but I feel mine is a special case.

So special that I just have to ask what special education school the AI programmer graduated from.

So I go to defend my protectorate Hannover from the Dutch invasion force.

They attack a small Hannoven army just inside the Netherlanders' border, and my main army is there to reinforce it.

By the time I get my troops set up, the Hannoven troops are already routing. No biggy.

The United Provinces' troops consist of mostly line and oddly enough grenadier units with 100 men (never seen that but oh well)

They have the usual AI obsession with Puckle Guns (Almost every European nation in my campaigns have recruited armies of puckle guns... because they are so awesome*sarcasm* )

Thats when things got, may I say it, mentally challenged.

The Puckle guns began firing at the ground where the Dutch troops were, and they just paced back and forth for about ten minutes soaking up lead balls from their own rapid firing goodness.

I just sat and watched in amazement as they killed their own general and even routed a light infantry company.

Then the puckle guns fired on each other and destroyed half of them before finally someone with a brain said "Hey look its the Prussians! Lets go get them"

I was on a hill, they were torn up something fierce. I demolished them....

I was rather disappointed, but somewhat amused. I am wondering if anyone has ever encountered anything quite like this.

I haven't had puckle guns do it, but I have had light infantry and some long rifle man as the Americans firing when no one was in range and sometimes at my own men. The worst part was that some of these bullets would wind up killing people at three times the range of the unit. I had to retreat my men from some pretty intense combat while I maneuvered a few options around to stop this. Luckily I heavily outnumbered my opponent by the time this started to happen.

Fixing these sort of bugs might also improve the AI a little because maybe all the bugs are confusing what would be a decent AI...

You obviously missed those news reports about tax and pay scales disputes within the Dutch forces.

Facing a financial downturn, dutch economic rationalists decided to cease all further recruitment and cut the military budget by 2/3. The once proud Dutch Academy of Artillery was outsourced to India.

Ah, I did not get that memo on my desk. I guess they forwent the signal flags, so the gun crews had no idea what they were suppose to be shooting at.

    Never seen that...

I did get a city assault (against Poland playing as Austria, H/H) where all the defending units all tried to hide behind the same section of wall and completely ignored my guys until we had shot most of them where they stood...

My favorite thing is defending my cities against the AI. I let them come right over the walls and put my artiller in the corners of the square and turn on grape shot. I then fill up every singe building with a line infantry and put another line infantry in front of each building with trenches in front of them.

Typically I'll have a few grenadiers to repeatedly chuck grenades into the center when the retarded comp inevitably bum rushes the center flag. I have had literally 3500 corpses piled in the center of my cities where the AI rushes in through the gates and just piles onto the flag while every unit I have is cutting them down. It's hilarious.

Well I think the AI is far more intelligent.

It's clear from what you have said that the Pucklegun, was indeed manned by Rakes from your own country.

I, sir, say that you are a cad and a bounder... A sneaky sneaky one at best.
