Platoon fire?

hey so i decided to test out platoon fire in a battle today...I did a custom battle with 2 unit coldstream guards and 2 unit line infantry, and had the enemy as 4 units militia

the line infantry actually performed much better; it got roughly the same number of kills as the guards while suffering less casualties

This is just one test, and against low-tier infantry, but it makes me doubt the usefulness of the tech

so i just want to know if there's any point to researching/using platoon fire

well you then continue on to rifles if you do research it and since line infantry will still use rank fire it's no big deal if you don't like platoon fire because you don't need to use it, of course as a defensive firing drill is works much better, which goes well with my fighting style and as such I find platoon fire quite useful and although you don't see as many casualties instantly, over time you should notice platoon firing units getting more kills then the rank firing units
