Everytime it is a damn Ad. like many others have said in other posts we buy ETW and we get Steam it is not right. But hay what can ya' do other then deal with I guess.

I generally run Steam in offline mode all the time except for when I need to patch a game...which sadly also means having to wait for Steam to patch itself too.

I should do that myself.. every time one of those adds pops up it closes my game. it is really annoying. To bad this game is not like past Total war games where you simply install the game and thats it. I hate this third party softwere crap. But I am sure I am not the only one lol

Well, you have to thank the people that try and play these games without paying for that. Companies have to try and protect themselves somehow.

As Richard has posted simply run the game in off-line mode and check the forum for any news on patches.

Also, think about it this way, with alot of games that come out, you get limited installs, then you have to call someone to get more, which is annoying. Using steam as a form of DRM, you can install the game as much as you want on any PC you want because the cd key is tied to your steam account.

...and still they managed to pirate it. Hm, imagine that.

I blame the software companies for being oblivious to the fact that DRM treats only paying customers poorly. It does not affect people who pirate the game. Never has, never will.

My game does not do that. I do get the annoying 'update news' but you don't really need to read that. There may be something wrong with your system or Steam.

Well as I experienced the launch of M2:TW and was disappointed with the original game and then the various patches that were released (the 1.2 patch was released and then pulled due to problems) I swore that I would not install E:TW until the 2nd or 3rd patch. I relented. I've only dabbled with a couple of campaigns. I am disappointed that the game does not play well with my GTX280s in SLI mode - maybe the next patch. I don't intend to play it much longer as I don't want the disappointment of having the campaign stop at the late stage (the problem with the Hurons).

I agree with TSD about the limited installs. I may have that problem with either Crysis or Crysis Warhead (caused by two reinstalls of Vista - the first caused by an overzealous cleanup of the registry and the second due to lessons from the first reinstall). I can't belive you are really only allowed to install a game 'n' times - it's a very crude way of stopping piracy as after all they should have the IP address (although I guess numerous people could share the internet to bypass this).

I get these adds too, all the time, and I as you used to think...Great, an update/a patch, but nope... Just another add. Extremely annoying and it feels like I got addware on my computer.

Lol - Steam>File>Settings>Interface>Uncheck the box that says "Notify me..."

    Problem solved.

I am afraid that Steam and other similar systems are here to stay. See why:

I decided it was time to compile an article which takes a close look at every facet of PC game piracy with a view to hopefully clarifying the debate with a range of facts. I'm not looking to repeat the same old one-sided, superficial examinations of PC piracy that you'll find everywhere else. What this article does is examine PC game piracy in a logical manner, taking into consideration a range of publicly available evidence to provide an informed view of the current state of play. I encourage those of you who are genuinely interested in this topic to take the time to make your way through this rather long but thorough article, as I believe it provides a great deal of food for thought for those willing to read it.

Note that the same website has also a number of video and system guides worth following to make your games run better.
