New Graphics card not working... Can anyone help?

Today, I finally decided to upgrade my Nvidia 8500 GT to a 9500. I've upgraded my card before, and I knew what to do. I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers I currently had, then I switched off, removed the card. Placed my new one in, booted up, installed the new drivers, rebooted and now it seems dead....

Basically when I try to log in, nothing happens. I just get a blank desktop background with no taskbar or anything, and it just sits there. I've no idea what to do, and this is somewhat serious, as I have a good deal of stuff on this computer which I now can't get to.

Does anyone know what's happened?

Hmm well I would do exactly the steps you mentioned and expect it to work too.

I know it sounds silly but are you sure card is fully inserted into pci slot? Both ends?

Are you using the latest WHQL drivers?

Aye, it's fully slotted. I checked myself. um, what are WHQL drivers?

fully slotted! Woof woof. haha couldn't resist as haven't seen flash-heart for a while.

The WHQL are basically windows certified drivers that go through Microsoft labs first. The ones from the nvidia website when you select your card are those ones.

Well I currently have the 9500GT Vid Card. As far as getting it to work I fits in the PCI slot fairly easy. I did have to upgrade my Drivers on the Nvidia site.

PS word of warning if you got the card intending to play ETW on full setting or with any kind of advaced graphics. Take the card back to store if you can it is a terrible gaming card! But if that is not a option to you then just make sure it is seated properly in Mobo and update your drivers.

under load of the game with no OC the card dose run around 95C and it dose lag alot that is even with a extra Cooling fan.

Well, I used the ones that came on the disk in the box... Too late to change it now, seeing as it won't get past the login screen.

solution, buy my 9800gtx which is soon to b replaced by a gtx 280

thats a good card 9800 GTX. but after doing alot of research, I find that for now ATI has a better option in the 4870 1gig . I will be getting that card this week. here is the Link for info on the card.

Riight, well this is starting to get weirder... I just decided to leave it on the blank desktop to go and have some dinner, and when I got back, It was back to normal. Seems that it's now taking practically forever to boot. After clicking around through control panel, I've also found that it's incredibly slow, and my CPU usage seems to continuously spike every now and again.

I have the same issues with the 9500 GT it is a very unstable card. and I have tried many different drivers from the latest to the oldest. I just find that the card over all is just not a good card in any way shape or form. But on a positive note. I can still see my desktop. lol

Damn, this card cost me a fair amount of money... I leterally can't do ANYTHING now with it installed! I try to run empire, and after clicking on a button on the main menu, it just stops everything, and eventually minimises....

I just don't see how it's possible!

Um... lol. Seems for the moment that my new card just hates ZoneAlarm with a passion, I ended it in the process window... and everything is back to normal..

Just tried out Empire... and I must say that on High graphics it's truly glorious. More than I'd hoped to get out of this purchase, I can tell you.
