Apart from quoting Jim Morrisson, I'm actually making a statement. we're democratic, wealthy, happy, all have good health, and the rest of the world kill themselves on fragile boats trying to live here. yes, we may be *slightly* arrogant, but then, who wouldn't be in our position. altough there must be a "West" thread somewhere, it must be old and forgotten by now.

What do you think? discuss and enlighten me.

I will just warn you to be careful with this thread since a horde of trolls will be coming any minute now to say how bad the West is and how glorious their motherland is.

I do agree with you however this view of the West is changing in light of the Economic crisis, in fact there are now some in China who argue that now it is time for China to openly challenge the West abroad since it has been weakened by economics.

I do agree the West is the best place to live in the world, but we do too have problems though not really major compared to other parts of the world.

The west is without a doubt the best.

Middle and South America:
FARC rebels, druglords, corrupt regimes throwing people off airplanes, bankrupt countries, massive ecosystem polution.

Middle East:
Islam Islam and more Islam. Islamic dictators, Islamic laws, angry Imams, Islamic schools and universities. Grudges between peoples. Poverty in smaller towns.

East and Southeast Asia:
Communism or worse. People and drugtrafficking. No respect for human rights. Beef over little islands. Beef over big islands. Absurd focus on collective power leading to insanely high suicide rate under population, due to being unable to cope with pressure. Wars over remote regions. Natural disasters killing thousands.

Africa:
Poverty, corrupt dictators, development aid disappearing into pockets of said dictators. People's militias, child soldiers, famine, aids, anarchy, racism. Too many problems to count.

Compared to all of that? I'd say we have it pretty damn good.

Ah, hmm. France and Germany are up there pretty high too. But it evens out with the rest of the west.

Hell, most our suicides are from depressed emo teens who don't understand life and bleed in their souls anyway.

Exactly why I feel that statement is a contradiction within itself.


Some of the greatest philosophies, scientific discoveries and knowledge as a whole have come from the east. Also, what is so democratic about the west? From what I've gathered there are corporately regulated republics and some moderate new age socialist states whose masses are under the guise that they have a true democracy set up.
