Default Which mod should I choose

I played Rio but since I dislike the super cheap recruitment and the super expensive upkeep costs I wanna try one of the other mods. Does all the mods have these high upkeep costs. I mean I had to murder 30 of my family members just to scrape by.

    Hi Ermeni,
The murdering of 30 of family members never should have been done in my mod unless you tried and played the Justinian mod..which is considered a beta and needs adjustments around balancing costs. If you don't like the unit costs, I have no problem with that or any criticisms of the mod unless I hear something like the killing of thirty family members to survive..thats just silly but willing to hear the circumstances.

We recommend players to play the Momma. Its the original Mod and the costs are set up different than my mod so you might find it more appealing. GL

I love your units upkeep system Rio it makes even the AI cheat less with "countles legions of troops trick" from vanila, I'm forced to disband mercs right after the battle and those battles tend to be more decisive. Even lower tier units like pedites romani are now more usefall thanks to their low maintanance cost and high cost to effect ratio.
The diplomacy and old good epionage and diversion are again the more important in statecraft.
In Momma you could end with all palatini army becouse the upkeep of militia and most elite units was almost the same. I wonder if is there some mod to make those upkeep costs twice as high.

Tx for the tip. I really enjoy Ruina Romae.

About Rio I probably must have triggered the Justinian Script. After I disbanded all my units and killed all my family members my faction leader and heir still cost me 14 000 in upkeep. I'm not a communist but that's just to much, I mean considering my financial crisis I don't like to see people catching those huge bonuses.

    Hi Ermeni,
the high upkeep costs for Roman's Family Member is due to reflect the high costs to mantain the mercenaries that in this period made the bodyguards corps of Commander and Elite Peole.
Usually I accept adoption only of people with at least one/two points in their Command/Management/Influence features.
Furthermore, as Draco Borealis wrote, their high cost together with the Romans Units upkeep costs is also to avoid to have sooner or later Romans Uber Armies, made for example by Legio Lanciarii, Bucellarii and Cataphracts...
If I can suggest, try playing BRG II Expansion with a Barbarian Faction or Sassanids... their costs are almost two/three times lower compared to Romans...

Hi Ermeni..The Momma is truly a great mod One of the best out there but the economics of my mod are much different.

The body guards are expensive and the Faction leader and heir are hard coded to have more numbers than the regular family members. Even though lets say I set their numbers on huge settings at 10(#40=3700 upkeep) The faction leader numbers will increase over several turns double its size to 84 guards thus doubling the up keep costs. The Faction heir increases a little over 2/3rs to about 68 guards. But the up keep would range from the faction leader 6700 to the faction heir upkeep 5200 around and then to the reg family general units 3700. Not sure how you got it as 14,000 upkeep. The Justinian mod needs to be rebalanced for the many economic changes in the Rio Mod. No fault of anyone just that generals are very prevalent in the mod and at the time it was done so with the mod being well balanced.
