Why does my unit's experience disappear?

I've sometimes noticed that the experience levels of my units decreases even when they're not doing anything. does thisa happen to anyone else or can anyone explain it?

The only reason i can think of is maybe when I replenish my troops it averages out the experience. I suppose this will stop units being super experienced even if only one man escapes and is replenished, but it's annoying all the same.

Yes, replenishing troops are essentially experience-free. Imagine if you had 3 highly experienced survivors of a 120 man unit, but then stuck in 117 rookies. The unit as a whole wouldn't be very experienced.

I have found that if you always replenish your units...even if they just lose a few men...they retain their experience better. Since you not dropping in a ton of newbies in at once.
