When ever i try to play a battle, campaign or custom, the game always crashes as soon as the battle screen loads, and it says that an unspecified error has occured. Very strange considering this never happened when i first installed the game.

That is a vague statement. You changed something.
Have you changed your ingame settings? Have you changed any hardware? Have you unpacked? Have you installed any mods? Have you installed any new software?
I unpacked, but then i uninstalled the game, and re-installed several times, hope thats helpful. . . .
The unpacker readme tell you how to unpack the packs either all the packs or indivdual files and folders. It also tells what you have to do to fight battles after you unpack of which means you have to delete two files with time stamp errors. The two files are given by name and location.
That's all. Nothing more, nothing less.
to be honest, i wasnt sure what the unpacker did and when i read the read me file i got more confussed, i was looking for a way to edit the mongol units, since they really dont seem "best cavalry in the world" like it should be, this was also before i got internet so i dint know there were some mods that already did this. I ignorantly read "unpacker" and thought maybe the files to edit stuff like this were hidden away or something and would now be available, which of course they werent and now i cant even do a custom battle without it crashing, any help would be greatly appreciated. . .
to find them follow the steps. they are in ur virtual storage if u have vista, then heres what u do, in search type in %appdata% and hit enter. the virtual store folder should pop up. then navigate to the sega folder in it. all ur unpacked data should then pop up, scroll down and find the above mentioned files and delete..."remember to empty ur recicycle bin or its not truly gone!"
ok got it, turns out since i have vista, i had to press the compatibility files button to make the forementioned ones visible, thanx for the help.
