Default Mysore is the thorn in my side

So playing as UP about 20 years into the campaign, I find it nearly impossible to take over the southern tip of India. I first tried to take Mysore but was repelled by two stacks. Then, I went after the Maratha city right next door, took it, but was stormed by another Mysore full stack! So far Mysore has put up a better fight than any other nation I have gone to war with (France was a pain in the ass too). I mean no other nation is as aggressive towards me as these little bastards. Anyone else having this problem? I always manage to decimate the first stack they send but all the Indians hate me so I am stuck dealing with multiple stacks.

In India the AI tends to mass spam melee units. On harder difficulties the unit bonus effects can be pretty devastating early on in your campaign when you are early in the tech tree.

I'd suggest trying to get canister and rank fire ASAP.

    Cannons and Cavalry only.

It works well on factions in India, even if they have pikemen.

Herd them up like sheep, never let them reach your cannons. Split your horsemen up to deal with threats. Avoid pikemen until the end. Take out their cannons ASAP.

    You will do fine

Mysore my first campaign was a pain for me as well. This was before I realized that other countries couldnt actually set up camp there contrary to what the opening lady says. Sent a full stack, got my clock cleaned, set my Indian campaign back several years to say the least. However, I then realized that the Mughals were just wimps and started up north and was a cake walk then. Including when I got around to Mysore pretty much. He had 2 stacks give or take, but there was civil war all over India so they werent exactly full squads.

While that tactic works very well, what you're doing is exploiting the AI's intelligence.

    Well done nevertheless.

send several armies! I've sent in a full stack of sepoy first to take out their artillery and cavalry and any infantry they could, then I sent the belgian cannon fodder army (full stack line infantry all recruited in Flanders) to weaken their armies even more, then I sent the Dutch army with art cav and infantry

I beat Mysore today with this army:

    -1 general with bodyguard
    -4 units of voc cavalry
    -6 units of voc infantry
    -2 units of sepoy infantry
    -4 units of grenadiers
    -3 units with 12lb cannons

Make sure to have rank fire and canister shot before you invade. Use canister shot and grenadier's bombs to take out the elefants. The enemy will attack you with two armies after you have landed on the coast. Put your infantry in a long line with the cannons between the infantry units and grenadiers on the flanks and in reserve behind the main line. If possible put your cavalry hidden into the woods far from the main line. Let them take out the enemy's artillery and attack the enemy in the rear. The first army will attack you head on. Defeat them. After you've defeated them you should turn your army around to engage the 2nd army that will appear behind your position. Defeat them as well and try to mop up as many runners as possible. After that you can take their capital.

They jusy got some troops reserved. I would suggest having army in Mysore, capture town, and wait for enemy's full stack army to attack while you are in fortfied position. After they troops on you, they will take to rebuild - its perfect oportunity to get em conquered.
