I have min specs on everything but processing. It runs better than yours, except in RTI chapter 4 at the beginning the AI turn would randomly get stuck on the Ottomans. Is that what you are playing?

It is the AI taking longer to think. Some reason as the game goes on the AI enters a very defensive state and starts building massive stacks and just being defense, but they are doing patrol routines which has them send armies out to different points of a region to mimic an army patrolling its territory and I bet that having so much units and stuck in defensive makes them do this so much.

As AI factions gain larger amounts of territory the time it takes them to process all commands for every region increases, which is why it takes less time for a group of many countries with less territory to think, than 2 armies controlling the whole world.

if you look in the other threads on the topic someone already posted the cause and solution(kinda). that particular AI faction is producing numerous stacks of units and having to calculate movement for each stack is probably what's taking so long.

    solution: kill that faction

"it seems that the longer i play the game"

If that means "hours in game playing uninterrupted", there's a memory leak and probably memory corruption, the longer you play, the worse it gets, the more likely you are to have CTD/SGC. I usually restart the game every couple of hours, much beyond three and you're almost assured of weirdness starting to occur.

We can only hope the next patch addresses these issues first and foremost

Frankly I think CA made a disastrous with the first patch
    1) it set expectations too high
    2) they messed it up

As a result folks seem to be clamouring for/disappointed at not getting weekly patches
and CA can't afford to make *any* mistakes with the next patch sets.

They'd have been better off simply taking the [deserved] flak on the chin apologising profusely and taking the right amount of time to run down memory leaks/corruption.

FWIW Taking a five minute break every couple of hours is also good for reducing eye strain.

I have a similar rig. Takes 30 seconds max. Must be magic. I eat my vitamins and say my prayers.

It helps drastically to deselect 'show enemy moves' before starting a campaign. The only downfall is that occasionally you really do want to see those moves, but it's just something you have to live with. Most of the time it's repetitive movements back and forth, and time is wasted calculating the movement distances.

I got only a Core 2 E6600 2.4 Ghz with 4GB RAM and a 4870 1GB, and the longest a turn has taken me is about a minute and half 60-70 years into the game. So far I've played 3 different campaigns and the avg. end turn wait has been less than a minute. I dont get how ppl are getting such long wait times.

Well I don't know how I can help, but I'll just give you some info about how my PC is setup. I Have my E6600 overclocked to 2.8 ghz, running Vista 64-bit. When I play ETW I only have my Kaspersky anti-virus, ATI CCC, Steam and Vista Sidebar running in the background. I'm running a Raid 0 setup. I defrag my computer atleast twice a week. Plus I'm not a fan of keeping a lot of programs on my computer, I always uninstall programs that I dont use anymore and run a registry cleaner after that. Keeping my PC in this state has resulted in me enjoying ETW without any CTDs and quick turn wait times. My game only CTD once, when I sent 2 separate armies marching into the same city at the same time.

Plus most of the nations in my game are still alive.

    Thanks for the info Epic

But Jesus! Looks like another job to me.
Your "to-do-list" is extensive, isn´t it?

Anyway, I´ll try to adjust a couple of things following your example

Please tell me it gets better after the United States chapter!!! It is sooooo
slow to end the AI turn, it is almost unbearable. It just isn't right. I plan on playing the Grand Campaign tommorrow, but I seriously hope the wait time is better in this great game.

I am still playing my first campiagn year 1810.
Sometimes a CTD and sometimes the game freezes in the beginning of a battle.
playing this game for a time now it looks liks CTD's happens more often als the insufficiant memory bug. but the turns allways around 30 secs I believe.

    I'm playing
    dual core e 8500 2x 3,16ghz
    4 gig ram
    and a evga-e g force 9800 GTX+ 512mb ram

Only one solution: Kill as much factions as needed for a smooth end turn

I feel the turns do take alot of time, in previous TW games you would see what you discover with time...in this one since there is a big importance with trade, you have nations sp^read out on 3 continents, boats, armies, allies etc...so the FOW gets pretty dence...seeing too much of what happens....anyway i see this the only way to take a break...but sometimes when i do nothing during my turn, to keep my money for the next one, i do feel its too long.
