Pistol Duels

I was informed that when gentelman duel it would be the typical 10 step turn and draw. Why are they fighting with swords? Its also ridiculous to see a "gentle" man pull a gun on the other while fighting with swords! What happened to real dueling?

I find that weird too.

What I also find weird is on the one that it is a sword fight and the poorly dressed gentlemen pulls out the gun at the end, effectively killing you. (As I'm under the impression I'm always the person in Red)

Then when you press that check mark, sometimes it shows you as the victor instead of the loser. weird

I have yet to see a pistol duel come to a successful conclusion. In the 10+ attempts I have made/been challenged to, one of the guys always runs away (not always mine), but it always counts as a loss for me. Strange.

In duels the man who was challenged had the choice of weapon. It usually was between pistols or swords, but theoretically other weapons could be chosen such as knives, fists, etc. However doing so would be very un-gentlemanly.

In the videos one sees many actions that would be considered cheating and forfeiting the duel for the man doing them. I think they are supposed to be moderately hilarious, like the spy/assassin videos of Medieval.

BTW does everyone see these videos laggy, or it is just my underpowered system? Anything I can do to see them better?

I have all graphics set to Ultra, everything runs good but the duel videos still lag. So i doubt it's your system.

You don't know which character is yours until you hit accept. Sometimes you're the man in red, sometimes the man in Grey. I suspect there were supposed to be more videos than what we have, with all the ones showing you being buried resulting in your demise. I guess they didn't have enough time to create more videos and then simply used the same ones for either your death or your victory.

I've only seen 6 videos... For pistols there is the one where a duelist shoots himself, one where a gun is thrown at him and hits him in the head, and one where one of them runs away and is injured by a well aimed shot. So only one of those 3 result in death.

For swords, there is the short clash followed by a disengagement and then one very unsporting fellow draws a gun and kills his opponent. There's also a back and forth that results only in injury. I can only recall 2 gentleman sword duel videos.

For the rake vs gentleman, I've only seen one of these. After a short bout, the gentleman is knocked on his back and the rake (wearing a mask) walks up and calmly sticks his sword in the gentleman's chest. I think this is by far the best one as it's a good duel with a stabby conclusion instead of a retarded outcome that would hardly ever happen with a real duel. (shooting yourself in the face?)

Has anyone seen any more than that? Specifically more with a rake vs gentleman?

No one has a sense of humor on these forums, this is being more and more clear to me. They're supposed to be funny, not historical recreations. I like the pistol duel where his gun won't shoot and the other guy throws his gun at his head.

Ok don't shoot me but I would've loved to be able to fight those duels urselfs like in Sid Meijer's Pirates.

Would have made for an interesting minigame imo. But maybe that's not so suitable for this game.

How do you get them? I mean... I only got the assassinate option, never the duel when I attack gentlemen with rakes...

Gentlemen can initiate duel with rake, rakes can only initiate assasination.

It's not just you. My ones are so choppy they're unwatchable. I suppose we wait for the patch...
