Anyone else hate trailers?

Seriously, what's this obsession with trailers the game industry has been having. They are terrible, they don't show any of the gameplay and they are extremely vague. What was the last trailer that made you care? Me it was the Witcher long ass video where he punches a purple monster, and that wasn't exactly a trailer. Before that? Probably never.

I understand that a trailer is a great way to build hype when your true game is bugged beyond belief and you have no real footage to show, but this is getting out of hand. GameTrailers (crappy website that's 100% ads) had this "segment" where they trashed old gameplay movies and said that you now need to pay high $$ to make a quality trailer, the ins and out of it, it was nonsense. It costs 6 figures, if not more for a bunch of pictures no one cares about. They seem to be done by people who aren't gamers and who think the flashier it is, the more someone will want the game, wrong.

Bring back gameplay movies to "techno music" as things were back in the old days and that's all I need to make a decision.

When your game is in the early stages then yes, trailers and teasers are supposed to build hype. If the trailer is nothing but pre-rendered cinematics then I take it with a grain of salt, but I've already been hit with "wow" factor so there you go.

About them being plain terrible, well that's your opinion. I love trailers personally.

Well yeah, that's why I made the thread. Do trailers really make you interested in a purchase? I always wait for more.

As for Stalin vs Martians, yeah! The whole game is like built for the gaming community, it's like a huge inside joke and it's counter trend to the other types of games, I bet that trailer didn't cost a lot to make. Still great.

But it's going the way of the movie buissiness. Seriously, whatever trailer for a movie you see, it will look like the greatest movie of all time. It's becoming the same with games. And i love the "actual gameplay footage" tag, which is a lie in 90% of trailers. Sure the game "can" look like the trailer, but the technology to run it has yet to be discovered.

I like game trailers because they also have gameplay videos on there not just pre-rendered cinema stuff long way off before the game is released.

I like trailers...I don't really understand how someone could actually have a legit problem with them...seems sort of silly and pointless really.

It gives you a nice visual sneak peek at the game rather than just reading rumors and info off wiki or on random forums like this one, or seeing stills in a mag. If you want gameplay videos and stuff like that just watch the presentations from like E3 and Leipzig or search online for them.

I don't mind watching trailers for games I am already anticipating or for little story hints. What I HATE is when I watch a trailer, then scroll down to the comments and see "This game looks AWESOME!", or any assumption about the quality of the game or graphics based on the trailer. It's a short movie that builds hype but should in no way be connected with how good the game or graphics of the game will be.
